My recollection; overall good but, the rope stacks on the drum in a lot of layers, more layers = reduced effective gear ratio, so greater power loss than most. Due to the narrow/deep drum, when pulling with small amount of rope out, the tension wraps tend to dive under the layers on the drum, causing tangles/jams more easily than other winches.

Buzz-killer..........

The more I think about these winches the more I want one of these to hang one on.....

Or one of these....

Actually this may be the one....'72 K20 Cheyenne Super. I wanted one bad back then.

I think a plain old 350 with a Quadrajunk and an SM465 would be my preference. Much easier to qualify for the Relic Run in that configuration. After all it is hardly fair to upgrade the equipment when you can't upgrade the operator...:flipoff2:

350 and SM456 and NP205 would be completely bullet proof and idiot proof, but I have been way too spoiled by fuel injection, no worries on cold morning, big altitude change days, etc. I don't know tough call. lol.

I'm sure that cruiserdan 2.0 could be an easier upgrade.

I sometimes feel like XP. A decent operating system but no longer supported.....:crybaby:

Yep, that would be sweet. 1st generation Blazer.

Make mine a 350 cu. in., SM465 4 speed with either the NP205 or Dana 20 T-Case. Air Conditioning....and I'm good.

I had a new '73 model, a new '91 model and a new 2004 model through the years, but never a 1st generation (the best)!

The Blazer put a big dent in Bronco and Scout sales when it came out.

I've got a '70 model Half Cab (real one) that I need to restore, now that I am retired.

I've got an 8274 on the front of it, but a Hickey out the back would be nice.

^^^^^ Shame on you Dan. The Quadrajet is actually a pretty decent carb (my favorite actually). It's about as close to 'fuel injection' as was possible back in the day. And nothing sounds like a Q-Jet (WOT). :)

I can't think of a carb (of that era) that was more 'tune-able'. The biggest complaint back then was that they 'bogged', but only because the person who owned it...didn't know how to tune it. They have fairly small primaries which is good for air velocity through the carb and provides good throttle response at low speeds. Then those huge secondaries for when you want to 'romp on it'. BUT you need to adjust the linkage and spring tension so the secondaries begin to come in before the primaries are completely open, or you will dump so much air into it...that it creates a 'bog'/hesitation before the power comes on.

But there are endless needle and seat combinations, adjustments, etc.... They were used on some pretty powerful engines of the day (from the factory).

I have boxes of jets and metering rods and quit a few rebiuldable cores in my shop. It is 1 of the best carbs when tuned correctly, but they can be very miserable to get right if the wrong person has messed with it. Used to play with them alot, now nobody knows $#*+ about carbs, it's becoming a lost art and I'm showing my age.
Good night
Oh yeah the winch is cool too!

Not 1/2 bad there Sea Bass! :wrench:

thanks I painted the bumper OEM Gray I just got some final tweaking and get some synthetic rope then I'm going to pull this 80 up a tree

It looks good, almost like something the factory would have offered.

Don't do the tree thing. We all know it WILL, you don't need to convince us. ;)
