Because grade 8 hardware isn't cheap, that is how it keeps the cost down.

Like I mentioned earlier. It doesn't keep the cost down if you have to source it anyways and its not really an optional accessory IMO. But whatever.

So after going to 3 hardware stores I found some grade 8 bolts. They only had 4 on the shelf ($26 for everything . I figure I'll use the grade 8 on the lowers and the grade 5 on the uppers.

Here is a pic of the 8 (left) OEM (center) and 5 (right) the 9/16 bolts are 4". The smooth part is ~2.25" on the OEM bolt and 2.125 (with washer as spacer) on the others. In the control arm the threads are even with the outside of the bushing so I don't anticipate any issues.

I plan on mounting them like this. Hopefully between the lock washer and locktite they will hold. I have had reports of them loosening even with locktite.

Has anyone tried boltdepot.com?

never tried it but looks like a good choice...really easy to use website....I came to 26.88 plus ship for 10 bolts (part 661), 25 washers (part 3052), and 12 nylock nuts (part 2680)...all grade 8...much cheaper than the ACE hardwares around me want for grade 8....nice find.

boltdepot is a great place. I've never ordered from them personally, but i have friends who have and haven't had a bad thing to say.

Went ahead and got my order from boltdepot.com as well.
Went with the fine threads as they are stronger, $25 vs $15 for 10 bolts though.

Layton is correct, I do not include the hardware with the links to keep the price down on a set of links. As stated, customers are made aware ahead of time that they can opt for 9/16" hardware. A great many people run similar links in both FJ Cruisers and 4RNRs with the stock hardware with no issue.

Most people that notice the click are pushig their suspension farther that average. I use Johnny Joint and urethan bushings in industry standard sizes. Fact is that rod ends in metric sizes are just not common. The 9/16" bolts can also be used, although very tight, generally without reaming out the frame and axle side mounting holes.

Personally I would go with grade 8 over grade 5. There are a great many rigs out there with suspensions held on by grade 8 hardware with no issue at all.

Jon I am sorry to hear that you had such a hard time finding hardware. I figured it would be easy to find at most well stocked hardware stores.

Been a while since the last post. I have a few questions.

I am running a custom LT setup in the rear, I still have stock arms and joints. Upon full articulation the drooped side sits at an extreme angle and the bushing is not happy. I suspect this is where I am picking up bind. Is there a way to make non-adjustable OEM length links and add a Johnny Joint that is campatible with a huge amount of travel? I need to open up the mounts as well, the end of the link comes in slight contact with the mount. Not a fan of this.

p.s- I know my spring is unseated.

2000UZJ, Stan can build them for you with fixed or adjustable johnny joints on both ends to give you the best range of flex. I could see the poly bushings binding on your axle side mount from looking at that picture.

2000UZJ, I can build links for you in any length and configuration that you are looking for. Your link mounts on both frame and axle sides can be made wider and would accomodate a wider Johnny Joint. The body of the JJ remains the same while the inner ball with built in spacers gets wider, by 1/4" making it 2 5/8" wide.

Give me a call if you like and we can see what we can come up with. I see that you are in GA so you are not too far off, I am just outside Spartanburg.

Marius, your links are built and painted, will be shipped next week :)

Just a quick shoutout. Mine have endured a season of a LOT of wheeling now and are still doing great. They are scratched and scuffed but still straight. Adding 9/16 hardware really made a difference in noise.

I will second the durability of these units...priced right too. I have not switched to the 9/16 hardware so I have the clicking noise at times...with all the other little noises, doesn't really bother me at all....Great product.
