HFS-UZJ100 Upper & Lower Links

I got the upper and lower arms on last Thursday. Took it to CA and put approximately 150-200 offroad miles on them. Mostly high speed stuff, with a few chances to flex the rear axle, substantially. I did reuse the Toyota hardware and did not have any issues with fitment. Will probably go to the 9/16 when I get the time because it would actually fit even more snug, but that being said I did not get any noise or any ill effects from the Toyota (metric) hardware.

I did notice that the rear did have a new (more) "range of motion" when completely flexed. Never, with either of the tires sizes I have run (295/75/16, 295/70/18) have the tires ever rubbed my rear 4x4 labs bumper when fully stuffed. Well, now they do and I can see that it will be pretty easy to shave a bit off the bumper to accomodate. I will try to put a couple pics up, soon. These arms (the johnny joint) definitely do let the axle flex more.

I am impressed with the quality and these look like they will hold up in the rocks, nicely.

Thanks

Chris

Chris, are you running the stock length shocks or extended shocks with a lift?

Stan

Thanks Chris. Were you able to look at the brake lines while at full droop?

I am running regular length Radflos and the brake line is still okay at full droop.

From talking to LT, it sounded like upgrading to a longer frame-axle line would be smart for the longer L length shocks.

I did not get a chance to look at it when flexed. I'm sure I need to address that, probably just move the bracket lower to free up some slack.

Cool, that makes sense. The ABS lines attach to the upper links so you are OK with them.

Sent out a set in Red on Monday, they were at Raushe Creek this weekend.

Yours are in the next batch Jon. :)

Yes those links were banging against rocks all weekend. As soon as I can sift through the photos and videos, you may be able to see them n action.

Thanks for the update. Hope to have them installed before the 1st.

I called about 3weeks ago in hopes of purchasing these links and no return call. I'll try to call again tomorrow. Nice job on your work!

If you call and I do not answer please leave a message.

Mine got a workout last weekend. Scratched some paint off them but not even a sign of denting or bending. Jonathan may have a picture of mine in action, if so, it will be posted. Definitely worth the money.

Glad to hear that you are happy with them Chris.

Just shipped a set of uppers and lowers to a customer in Norway.

Recived the links the other day and mounted yesterday :wrench:
Links looks good, now i just need to go wheeling :steer:

The bushings on the oem links was in suprisingly good condition, no noticeable wear on 12 years/270'km, thats quite good in my book...

Glad to see them on your rig. That is great wear out of stock bushings!!

Now for some constructive critisism;
You should look at the following, either supply 9/16" hardware with the links (good), or use johnny joints/bushings with slightly smaller hole to fit oem hardware (best).

I've got a slight "clunk" from the arms (not my flesh and bone arms, although they are also prone to making noises, but the rear control arms on the vehicle) while dooing "eager manouvering" :steer: at slow speeds, and will need to get some 9/16 bolts in time.

But other than that this was top notch merchandise :flipoff2:

The Johnny Joints are not available with a bolt size to fit the OEM metric hardware, just in standard sizes like 7/16, 9/16, and 3/4.

I do not include the 9/16" hardware with the links in order to keep the price down and most customers stick with the stock hardware.

The last step in the instructions state:

8. You may choose to swap out the OEM bolts holding the LCAs with 9/16 inch grade 8 hardware. The stock bolts are slightly smaller in diameter than 9/16 and you may hear a clicking sound from the LCAs as they load and unload during extreme flexing.

I am glad that you are happy with the links.

I tagged mine l plenty of times in Moab. Lost some paint but no worries about bending these links, extremely beefy.

That's reassuring. I look forward to putting my new set to work this Saturday. Stan explained that we could easily touch up the paint somewhere in this thread.
