Far as I know you should not have any negative effects as the heater core would them be a completely closed system on its own. Main detriment is that what little the heater did work would be completely nil now.

Make sure you test the system WELL if you plan on plugging like that, main concern is that the clamps will not work adequately on the threads of the bolts thus causing leaks.

it still blows super hot.. I think its a small leak or the o rings failed..

Shutting the heat off WILL NOT stop the leak. The bolts may work but may seep by the threads. Try and find a 5/8 hose x 5/8 hose fitting and connect the 2 hoses from the heater core together. At least you have rear heat and if you put your heater controls on recirculate you can use the defroster at a very reduced rate by blowing the rear heat around. If I remember correctly there are 2 pipes that are NLA that go from the hoses to the heater core itself. Be very careful and check them thoroughly they could be leaking as well.

Thanks for the information I will look into it!!

only real way to stop coolant flow to heater core is remove heater hoses from heater core to bypass it (different ways to do that..but its easy) or you could install a manual valve in the heater hoses but that's not really a great idea.

I bought the same heater core from rock auto....last time I looked they were out of stock. I've not gotten around to getting my new hater core installed yet.

There is also one available on eBay that looks like the stock unit.

@Rockymtnreaper I thought you had said that the heater wasn't working, no heat? Yet now you say that it still blows super hot? Im confused.....
