Getting ready to order the last of the stuff I need to finish my dual battery project (yay one more thing began over a year ago finally getting close to done), and while surfing around, I found a few mentions of the Powergate isolator/combiner units. For those who use them, what're your thoughts? The Hellroaring unit seems far more rugged, but I do like the compact design of the Powergate. It seems like both will serve my purpose if they live up to their claims. I've never heard a bad word about Hellroaring, but again, the Powergate looks tempting as well.

Thoughts?

Powergate was installed 18-months ago and works as advertised. The beauty of its design: 100% solid state...no moving parts/contacts, virtually no wasted energy/heat, compact size. But others here have had great luck with the older style isolators too...

I have the hellwoaring and it works perfectly. Lots of write-ups in te 80's FAQ Modifications section under Dual Batt's

Another satisfied Hellroaring customer.

Many guys here on 'Mud are using the Hellroaring isolator/combiner. I cannot recall anyone that has reported a failure that was not self-inflicted. One guy admitted to installing it backwards, fried it, and the company sent him a new one. The Hellroaring customer service before and after the sell is outstanding and their prices are reasonable. As for size, the device is about the LxWxH of a double deck of playing cards.

Not that I'm keeping track, but I think Spressomon is the only 'Mudder that has bought and installed the Powergate device. One of the company's sales guys will tell you how great their product specs are but you should sit down before you ask the price. Maybe have a defib standing by too. Oh yeah, and for that price you get a full 1 year warranty from P-Gate. :rolleyes:

Hellroaring = Good product.

I like the one in my 80 enough, that I'm going to use the same set up in my FJ60.

x5 on Hellroaring=good.. x2 on self-inflicted frying. :rolleyes:

I'm going to put one in the 40 some day. My ONLY complaint is the posts are pretty close together where you hook up your cables, leaving not much room at all between them. Hasn't been an issue though, just can't be sloppy when tightening.

x7 on the hellroaring...

:confused:

do I have to have it installed to say that?

:D
I haven't installed mine yet...just need a good weekend free of "honey-do's"
