I just purchased my first FJ62 (and first Cruiser) today. I ended up driving it the hour home because of a nightmarish experience renting a car hauler at Uhaul...

Long story short, Uhaul will be paying to repair the bumper and liftgate moulding on my wife's Suburban, damage that was caused when the trailer came unhitched while I was driving the Cruiser onto it (so much for all the "checks" they're supposed to do after they attach the trailer)... Oh, and then one of the trailer tires blew out as I was driving off the lot. After waiting about an hour, I get word that a replacement is at least 90 minutes away. That's when I decided to risk it.

Well, we made it home just fine, and I was pleasantly surprised that the PO left a Beatles CD in the CD player. Definitely made the ride go by much more quickly.

Now, on to baselining (including a badly needed tuneup). The truck drives pretty smoothly, but idles a little rough. Nothing too bad, but it's noticeable. I'm hoping it is improved once I change the plugs, wires, dist cap, rotor, etc.

I'm sure I'll be posting here OFTEN asking for help as I discover other bits of my Cruiser's "character."

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself to the forum.

How good is a road trip home after buying a new car!!

Looks like a good purchase, is that bed liner sprayed onto the paint?

I agree the trip was awesome! Didn't even mind the fact that I was riding through Louisiana in the summer with no AC .

It is bedliner, but it's the "smoother" kind. Feels kinda like snakeskin if I had to describe it.

I never would have put it on there, but I kinda like the way it looks.

I was definitely wary that the PO added it to hide rust, but any rusted panels were replaced by a shop before it was applied (he dropped some serious $$$ on bodywork and it shows).

I also went three hours to pick mine up sight unseen. That looks like a really nice start to a great cruiser. I wish mine has a front bumper like that. Those are $$pricy little buggers. Keep us posted. I'll be following for good ideas and cruiser porn pics.

Sharp truck - keep us informed on your repair/upgrade efforts.
