Roger on the screwed battery cover. Those other dudes must have last year's model

I heard back from Black Diamond about the yellow tinge to the light. They say that in tests users experienced less eye fatigue at this "temperature" of light. 4300k I think they said. I think I got so used to those blue tinged lights that this bothered me more than it should have. After all it looks more like an incandescent light than typical LED. That should be a welcome change and one that I'm getting more comfortable with over time. I think it actually is easier on the eyes.

I got the orange one.

Bought one like this. I'll be putting it to use this week in the dark woods of south Alabama. I'm still learning the light functions.

I have a Princeton Tec Remix Pro. I like that it can use a rechargeable CR123 battery and can be had with white and red light modes. It's water resistant and made in the USA. They do have a version that uses AAA batteries.

I have 2 actually, one all white and one white / red.

Cool. The only trouble I had with it was the three second button hold to turn on the red lights. It didn't always work. Half the time the spot would come on instead, I suspect because the button was hard to hold all the way down without any movement. But the button seems to be getting less stiff and easier to depress. Either that or I'm just getting better at finding the center where the actual switch seems to live. Also the stiffness of the angling movement. My old Petzl was easily turned downward with one hand, this is not. You need to hold the backing plate while you pull the light down.

Let us know how it goes and your impressions of the yellowness of the light. Does yours even have the yellow spot in the center?

I have had a few headlights, the BEST that I have used and still use is a Zebralight H600FWmkII Floody using the headband with topstrap. This light dims to an ideal level and is as bright as you want it. A bonus to long battery life with the 18650 cell which is the same as my EDC Nitecore SRT-6 flashlight, I have extra batteries and chargers everywhere.

The best I've used, and have for years, is the SureFire Minimus. It's more than most upfront, but it's just about as close to indestructable as I can find, waterproof, aluminum housing, pyrex lens etc. I also like that instead of buttons, the light output is adjustable with a knob, so it can be as bright/dim as you want at the time. The position is also completely adjustable, no presets. The light output is completely even, and it thrown it enough where it's good for trailfinding out to about 50m, past that I'd use a flashlight. The cr123's are getting a lot easier to find too. My two cents.

Huh, mine doesn't have a screw, must be the SPOT I have. BTW, just got the new Black Diamond SPOT for 2016 since the adjustment angle on my old one gave up the ghost. 200 lumens is plenty for me and the controls are easy enough to understand. Sorry if I provided misinformation on the screw holding the battery door shut.

Pelican 2690 for me. It doesn't have a red light, or an adjustable flashing stroke, or an alarm clock... They're cheap (~$25) and the toughest ones I've ever used. They're also made here in the U.S. Of A. Simply twist on and twist off. No pushing a button 5 times to get the bright light. I've used them in hot, wet environments under ~3 bar of pressure and they work great. They're class 1 div. 1 rated too... Yes you need a screwdriver (small Phillips) to change the batteries, but if you're devoid of even your Swiss Army knife, you're SOL anyway.

I'm gonna have to second the black diamond revolt, it's basically the same as the storm but has rechargeable AAA and a micro USB port, I carry it with extra triple aaas for LONG trips but otherwise it's really nice to be able to charge with the same charger as my phone, and it's prozen quite waterproof
