Timing should be okay but it wouldn't hurt to check it. You WILL have to adjust the valves.

How simple/hard is that?? Remember i only have 1 out of 10 when it comes to experience with these things. I guess my real fear is taking it apart and not being able to put it back together.

ok so i have been looking over the fsm before attemting to pull the head. Once i get it reworked and it is time to reinstall, do i have to have the timing redone, adjust rockers??? Or do i just reassemble and go?

As Troll says it won't hurt to check the timing, and you will need to adjust the valves. Both are easy to do - Troll taught me. I'd be happy to help you out once you have your head back.

May take u up on that. I am spending way too much time thinking about this. Starting late tommorow and next week i jump in come hell and hight water.

I tore down the head on my first cruiser back in college with 0 understanding of what I was doing and no manual to help me. I'm sure with the fsm you will be just fine.

When you take the head to be done take all the other parts with you and have them hot tank them. It's like 15 dollars and worth every penny having clean stuff to put back on.

gonna try to drill and tap one more time sunday afternoon. Buddy of mine from work hooked me up with some hd drill bits. I will remove the headbolt and see what happens. He gave me a idea on how to hopfully get the old bits out 1st then redrill. I will let u guys know tommorow.

Yep i did and finally got it out today. Will prbably be wed. before i tap it though.

well a fellow employee broke my finger by accident at work saturday. Still haven't gotten to tap my plug fix dang it! Pic is pretty tame, when i 1st did it, the top od my finger was t6otally caved in to the bone. A guy was helping me do a line change and slammed a automation arm against my hand before i could get out of the way.:whoops:

tapped today. Finally! Put the valve cover back on as well. Still gotta reconnect hoses and reinstall carb.

Got carb back on today. Can't seem to get it to run yet. Sounds like i have some sort of leak somewhere. Might not have the nuts tightened enough on carb. Cant get to the one under the choke very easily wirth right hand. Gonna have another set of hands tommorow i hope.

i'm still not 100% sure that i have that electric choke adjusted properly.

Since she's been dry it will be hard to start especially on this cool morning without a choke.

maybe someone can chime in and let you (us) know if the webber carbs with electric chokes are normally closed when in the off position.

I'm assuming that a vaccume pulls the choke back open but since i did not know for sure i just left the choke adjusted to normally open when not running.

I would normally have put it back to the specs when i pulled it apart but that assy was already loose

I saw a kit to convert to a manual choke. May think about that. We did have it runin for a minute or two and it idled great! Now just gotta let loctite and threadtite dry.
