waffle house is the best for shredded fried potatoes ... i wish there was one close i would go and get me some .. but it is a 100+ mile drive to one .. any one in abq wanna meet me half way ...

I think I've got three within as many miles of the house . . .

yeah, you gotta learn how cook 'em. You don't just throw the shreds on there in a big pile. Get some oil good and hot, then press the browns out in a thin layer. Maybe 2 or 3 shreds thick. Drizzle a little more oil over the hash browns. Give them time to brown and crisp up, then flip them over. They'll break up a little, but you should be able to get them in 2 or 3 big sheets. A little while longer and they're done.

Salt. Pepper.

That's pretty much spot on.

I've paid my short-order cook dues. :D

Well, that's good and all; however, I don't mind if the shreds are separted too. They don't have to be all one huge mass to keep my taste buds happy!

Next time?

There was cheese in them last night when we ate them mashed. And some other good stuff. Who do you think you're talking to here? I have Irish coming at me from 4 different directions in my ancestry. I will likely harvest 30 or 40 pounds of potatoes from my garden this year. Add cheese.

For the pancakes tonight, Mrs. yooper added an egg and maybe some more cheese, I'm not sure, and some salt and pepper.

Wow they were good. I felt guilty after I inhaled twice as many as anyone else and both daughters wanted more. :o

Both daughters agreed when I declared the potato as the world's most perfect food. I'm so proud. :D

And this has been another episode of Lace Curtain Tales. Erin go bragh.

The potato orgy continues. Tonight I grilled cheeseburgers and Mrs. yooper made oven fries. She cut up some Yukon Gold potatoes into strips about 3/4 - 1" thick, skin on, salted them, sprayed them with olive oil, then baked them at about 400-425° F for about 45 minutes, then switched the oven to broil mode and browned them up for about 5 or 10 minutes. OMFG they were good, also served with steamed carrots and . There are no leftovers. I am a lucky man.
There is no debate.

Finally cooked up that bag of browns today. Excellent stuff. Went well with the eggs and chopped up steak.

Did you cube the steak or shred it? . . . I'm just asking.

[ :flipoff2:preemptively to JohnnyBoy. ]

Well, they're not hashbrowns, more like homefries, but who cares? Look at those Bennies.. :grinpimp:

I'd eat it. But I wouldn't call 'em hash browns. Is all's I'm sayin'.

Yum. To accompany our Ribeyes tonight. I shreaded, yes shreaded not that bag stuff, but yellow spuds, blanched them, added red onion and then broiled those suckers until crispy. Made a garlic mushroom gravy and fried up some baby artichokes. Forgot my damn camera back in the city.

OK, it turned all ghey at "baby artichokes" . . .:flipoff2:

I think the real question here is how do you get 8 pages out of taters?

When Yoop decides to only post a few times on the subject, otherwise there'd be 10 pages . . .

I enjoy ketchup it the proper setting. French Fries are made for a little ketchup. Why you hate Heinz pray tell? Does it ruin the taste of your freedom fries?;)

Gee, why do you think? Cuz Theresa has made a different John her bitch.

why does fsusteve hate potatoes? And why then does he keep coming back to the thread about them that he thinks is too long? Why indeed?

Last weekend I made real fries in the deep fryer, just before I did a fish fry with northern pike fillets. Oh man it was good. I'm going to do it again this weekend - I have at least a dozen pike in the freezer out at camp. Can't wait. I'm going to use the Belgian fry method this time (fries aren't really French, they are Belgian).

Witch Lake Flashbacks!

I say we make this The Ultimate Potato Thread. The Hashbrowns title is just stealthy.

I for one would like to know which ketchup is better than Heinz so I can try it. As much of a potato gourmand as I am I admit to being ketchup ignorant. :o

Whataburger Ketchup rocks the house.

Whataburger has some good ketchup. Comes in that little square plastic foil topped container.
It is excellent on FRIES.

OK, now I'm gettin' skeered. I just agreed with Johnny4skin!
