Let's not dismiss Poutine either

the second best thing to come out of Canada besides the (Bloody) Caesar.

I bet you're talking about Simply Potatoes..

And yes, they are surprisingly good. :grinpimp:

There she is.

 I'm going shoppin' on the way home from work...

Fresh coarse ground. Black pepper goes on everything that isn't a desert.
I've had pepper ice cream before it was good stuff. Sweet and black pepper go together better than you might guess.

OT Mom made potato pancakes out of left over mashed taters. (They had black pepper in them.) They were good for any meal served with apple butter, or with breakfast with a couple of fried eggs on top.

These potato pancakes you speak of...were they fried?

Chili cheese fries? Yeah, good stuff.

Not chili cheese.
Brown gravy like you have with pot roast and cheese curd. Cheese curd is different from cheese, blander and more chewy good stuff if its fresh. It's cheese before it is aged.

Same here. We go through a lot of whole pepper in my house. My favorite grinder is a Perfex, all metal, hand made in France :o . They used to sell them at Crate and Barrel. They last forever. I've heard good things about Peugeot pepper mills too.

Is this a post from Marthastewart.com?

:D

We've had the same pepper grinder for over 10 years. It grinds pepper well...

PH - In TuT this is called

Cheese is mushy, curds are squeeky and damn good.
I can eat that stuff up too.
I bet Woody knows a thing or two about curd

ok, give up the goods, I haven't heard of this before.

High Temp Roast Chicken...step-by-step...sorta...with pics

it's a long-winded post...and it's really easier than it sounds...I recall wanting to be very thorough in my description...

damn...now I'm gonna need to make that this weekend...

Hash browns, AFAIK.

From Wikipedia:

Home fries
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Home fries are a type of potato dish made by frying diced, shredded, or sliced potatoes that have been par-cooked by boiling, baking, steaming, or microwaving. The potatoes are cooled between the two stages. Thus, they differ from french fries, which are cooked primarily by deep-frying.

The frying is typically done in butter or vegetable oil, and chopped onions, pepper, and other ingredients are typically added.

The consistency depends on the type of potato used. Although various types of white potatoes are the most popular base, sometimes waxy (usually red-skinned) or sweet potatoes are used.

In many countries, Home fries are usually served for breakfast. There are many ways people eat them, for example with ham and eggs, or covered with ketchup. In some locations, home fries are even used as a pizza topping.

Home fries can also be a part of a Full English Breakfast.

That's the most useless wiki-damn-pedia entry I've ever seen...it just names off every possibly way you could eat a potato in the morning...pure fully concentrated uselessness!

Hash-browns = shredded potatos which are never seasoned enough and sure as hell not crispy enough either. If ordered at the Awful House they might have dripping wet onions mixed in, or some sort of yellow goo, referred to as cheese..in either case they will be wet, squishy, devoid of any potato flavor and will likely give you the runs later in the day.

Diced potatos (I've always just called them what they are) = diced potatos boiled, then fried with enough oil, salt, pepper, garlic salt, etc...to make basically small french fries...you have to cook them slow and for a long time...I make awesome ones of these.

Home fries = some stupid-ass name a restaurant came up with when trying to appeal to a backwoods crowd...it was probably Johny's first day to the big city, he went to a diner for breakfast, the cook was too lazy to peel the potatos and instead just labeled them "home fries", ironic since they were not in a home and they were not fries...just sloppily hacked apart potatos thrown in a pan then let cook until about burned on the bottom, but still raw on the top...ala Home Fries.
