we got um up here in MN... just had some 15 min ago... cheese is not too popular up here... you would have to request it to get it...

I've had hashbrowns my whole life, and I've never lived in the south. But "hashbrowns" means different things to different people. Are we talking about cubed potatos pan-fried in butter? shredded potatos fried so that they all kinda stick together? I love 'em all no matter what you call them.

I think once you start adding chopped onions, green peppers, and a layer of melted cheese, it becomes a "skillet." Or some other such thing.

I'm actually about to have some. It'll be the norm--fried in vegetable oil, with some salt and Everglades Seasoning added.

(Along with some thick cut maple smoked bacon and a couple dirty eggs.. all served with Heinz ketchup) :flipoff2:

nope... think you have to have eggs in there to call it a skillet :D not sure however... if I ordered a skillet without eggs I would be pissed!!!

I like to fry mine in bacon grease... really good for you ;) but damn good to eat...

We call the cut up cubes "American fries" "hashbrowns are only the shreaded ones in MN

Never heard of a "skillet" around here. We usually just cook everything separately. Bacon, sausage, eggs, hashbrowns, biscuits, and sausage gravy make for a good meal.

Felix, I hate to break it to you, but Virginia is the south. :D

Yeah, but it's not the REAL south. Ask anybody from bama or georgia and they'd tell you the same. Especially not Northern Virginia. Wasn't this figured out in some other thread?? :flipoff2:

Yeah, I think maybe skillet is a Denny's term or something. I've never actually called anything a "skillet" unless it had a handle. Maybe "homefries" is the term I'm looking for... something more complex than hashbrowns. There are hashbrowns in the homefries, but it ain't all called hashbrowns.

VA south and AL south are totally different concepts. I've lived both places. And it was hashed out in a different thread. Hah, pun.

Yeah, a skillet is metal and has a handle around here. When I think "homefries" I think potato wedges. Nobody really says "homefries" around here either though.

If you ask people from Alabama, they call people from Georgia hicks. And vice-versa. Had extended relatives that did that. Funny as sh*t. And, Virginia is the real south! :flipoff2:

Well my point was that where I live isn't even VA-south. It's D.C. Metro. Sure, there's a monument honoring the confederate dead not a mile from my house, but there's nothing that feels "south" about where I live.

Also, potato wedges are just that, potato wedges. Or maybe steak fries.
