I think the 60 tach runs off electric not the speedometer cable on the transfer case housing.i don't own a 60 but I think it's plugged into the coil for some reason.PS, I could be very wrong on this.

How does it get it's speed reading then? I'm just familiar with a cable running right up to the back of the dash .

This will be easy to figure out.
Follow @Casey E 's advice & jack up the rear wheels and rotate them by hand & count revolutions of the drive shaft to figure out what gears are in the differential.
For example: The stock gears were 3:70. When the rear wheels are rotated 360° (together) the driveshaft spins 3-3/4 revolutions.

Also verify that your speed is correct (with GPS) and the tach is correct (with a tach equipped timing light).

make sure you can visually see the hi to lo shift shaft is moving from left to right as someone else in the truck is moving the shift lever side to side. You may be able to remove a cotter pin and disconnect the shift linkage and work it by hand. If the detent ball a spring is in position you should feel hi, neutral and low.

I'm at 2250 at 100kph about 62.5mph . At 70mph it should be about 2460. You can definitely feel it going from H-N-L.
I thought my 3F got the tach signal from the alternator.

Have you tried contacting the PO and asking if he swapped in different gears in either the t-case or diffs?

The PO I bought it from only bought it because his dad had one and didn't know much about it. But the guy before him did all the work. He texted the guy he bought it from to try to see if I can have his contact info and no response. So there are a lot of things that I'm having to figure out myself.

The diff gearing has nothing to do with my issue. I am going to check it today anyway because I need to know what they are but it won't answer my problem .

Replace the mini cooper wheels with the STD factory ones?

this is really puzzling

That would be the fix if it actually showed 60mph at 2500 but I was really only going 45. Wish it was that simple. It has to be gearing in the transfer case .

Unless there are reduction gears on the wheels like I had on my '58 VW bus.......
Then again I threw a Porsche Super90 engine in there....so much fun ~~~

This portal boxes are pretty cool! Only thing is my issue isn't affected by anything past the transfer case.
