I'd be quite interested in that as I'm planning a conversion down the road. I'll also post my findings for all to learn from. Could you PM me so I can send you some money for post?
If you think you can use it mate it's yours. I reckon $25 for post would cover it, if it doesn't I'll make it up no sweat.
If you want to go ahead bearing in mind it's non OBDII as our emissions spec was lower than yours - no cat, no EGR etc, then just PayPal me the money to awmcallister@gmail.com, plus PM me yopur address and it's on its way. Hey, if nothing else it's a cheap novelty for the man cave.
But I'm also wondering if the MIL light being on guarantees you can't pass a smog inspection. There are clearly OBD-II fault codes that have nothing to do emissions and one could make the case that an unrelated fault code, like something for the AT, should not cause you to fail a smog inspection. Heck, the MIL in my FJ comes on when it's time to change the oil and that can't be a reason to fail smog. I need to take the wife's Lexus in for a smog check soon and I'll ask the inspector about this.
I checked with my favorite smog inspection station and, at least here in California, if the MIL light is on for any reason you automatically fail smog. The logic goes like this: if the MIL is on for a non-smog related reason and then something goes wrong with, for example, the EGR system you'll never know it because the MIL is already on and presumably being ignored.
So, since you are guaranteed to generate one or more of the P07xx codes if you remove the AT and don't change out the ECU, I think the only viable solution for those that want to do this mod in a required smog test state is to purchase the expensive ECU made for the Japanese market.
Confirmed that the non-US MT OBD2 ECU does get rid of the MIL, but you lose tach because the ECU came from an HZJ80 which never had a tach as they were bare bones models.

Speculation only at this point, but I feel fairly confident that the tach functionality could be restored without too much difficulty. Of course one would need their hands on the vehicle, the original ECU and the replacement ECU along with an oscilloscope and a few hours of time, but unlike the much bigger challenge posed earlier in this thread, this one seems pretty doable.
I started looking at a h151f conversion and as usual I'm out in left field behind the dugout. I've put together the parts to graft a 1997 Supra NA MT ECU onto the truck. The single difference between the two engine is that the Supra require two front O2 sensors. Just need to grab a pair of 93/94 exhaust manifolds to be able to mount the forward sensors.

Hzj80 did come with a tach Beno,I have a 91 hzj80 waiting to be shipped from Europe, bare bones power nothing but it does have a tach, never seen an 80 without a tach.
