Trying to figure out what transmission to swap into my 96 and finding a used or new h151 is impossible but i have found the other 2.

if you were to choose between the 2 brand new which would make more sense for 1fz.

Both transmissions are from the VDJ76.

Looked in to gear ratios to find the differences a while back. I was wanting something that had better crawl and also a better highway gear. If I can't get my hands on a H152, then I would just go A750.

4.88 gears, 35" tires.

I'd love me a H152F, and now I'm hearing of a H153F! That gear ratio is so sweet.

what tyres and what diff gears do you want to run?

Reason for asking is it's very engine and gearing subjective.

for example, I've done plenty of towing with a HDJ80, Gturbo, H151, 4.1, 285/75R16 and a VDJ79, H150, 3.9, 285/75R16 and especially in the VDJ79, wished for a shorter first when towing ~3.5 tonne. Probably never towed this heavy with the HDJ80.

on the FZJ80s, 285/75R16 is fine with H151 and 4.10 diffs, but put a 35 on and first is too tall especially if you tow or run in soft sand much, you'll be into low range most of the time, but 5th is about right, below 2500 or so RPM, not much chop on the highway as you're going back a gear for anything resembling a hill.

H152 is good from a 1st gear perspective, but 5th might be too tall depending on diffs with a 1FZ

I've got a 2011 VDJ78 and first thing I wanted to do is swap in a H152. Shifts and cruises straight into 5th just like any
gear as you accelerate but .88 isn't enough 'overdrive' to be much use. It should be a 6 speed with .88 & then .75 to be
honest. The V8 power just walks right thru it. Since asked I'm running 286/75R16's cause trying to find 5x150 wheels with
negative offset is a bit expensive. So currently running the same wheels it came over with and 50 mm spacers out back
until I can get all the parts I need from Australia.

H152 would be a far better choice than h150 IMHO

I had a HDJ80 with H151. H151 has too tall 1st gear ratio for steep offroad stuff

H150 has a lower 1st gear for offroad stuff. On road, you could take off starting in 2nd gear a lot of the time.

H152 has the low 1st gear, and higher 5th gear.

AFAIK H150 were only used behind 1hz engines, but I'm not 100% sure on that. H150 as used with 1hz have a thinner, 21spline input shaft. H151, h152 have a thicker shaft with 14splines.

If you're using a transmission from a vdj powered cruiser with a 1fz, you'll need to change the input shaft. There's a few good threads on this.

H150/1HZ used a 275mm clutch. H151, H152 were used with 300mm clutch.
There is a 300mm Isuzu clutch that can be used with a 21spline H150 so you don't have to change the input shaft

VDJ7# came with a H150 and I'm pretty sure HDJ7# also had H150. The shorter first was much better than H151

No H150 also came in GR79’s, that is the newest version.
