GX460 Transmission fluid cooler

The cooler manufacturers send them with zip ties to attach so... : )

That is how I have a 678 attached on my XJ with over 100k miles, no issues. That's a little different than hard mounting it to the frame and using the cooler as a structural member though. Granted this is also how a lot of people hook it up too without much issue.

If you want to go a step above the $100 Goliath bracket makes the job super easy. I installed my mountain pass bracket on vibration isolators so I def went a little overboard but it's a Lexus not my XJ so it gets a little more spoiled lol

Exactly. Most coolers have padded zip-tie like fasteners that go through the A/C condenser or radiator fins. Those components are already isolated from vibration or heat transfer.

I'm a wildcat and have never had bad vibes in my sweet GX, so I chanced it by manufacturing my own brackets and hard-mounting them. If my tranny goes boom anytime soon, I'll still reuse my cooler brackets.

We'll see what my fluid looks like with my next drain & fill in a few months after so many years now with OEM cooler and a pinned thermostat. I am open to one of the large coolers.

You have to remember.. when I put mine on...in 2019 there was still debate that US market 460s had an external cooler at all. 3rd party really wasn't even a discussion point

I think the OEM cooler you added is the best option for most GX owners. About a third of my yearly accumulated miles are pulling a 4K+ camper and gear. I originally bought my cooler for my previous 4Runner, which wasn't going to stay a TV after getting the GX. I repurposed that item and have had great luck. Had I read your thread a year or so earlier, the OEM kit would be riding in the GX.

This one. Less than $10 in hardware and 15 minutes to bend/mount. The location is just too easy. Uses existing mounting holes...so no drilling into the Lexus parts.
Do you have link to the sheet you used?

On both of my GX...at 10k on the odometer the fluid looked like sludge. I ended up doing a full fluid exchange. When I installed the Hayden, the fluid still looked good. Maybe the factory fill??

I have done 6 GX with this setup so far with excellent results. Local dealer wanted $550 each when I inquired about my own vehicles.

I’ve used a Motive setup like this to refill AT in mine.. [From my posts in 2019]

That was a helpful post in a very informative thread.

I am a big fan of the Power Fill. I may get a separate one for use with gear oil to avoid cross-contaminating things. I've posted this pic probably half a dozen times and will keep posting it :).

I’d entertain via the cooler hoses for full fluid exchange but for simple drain and fill I’m comfortable with my current method.

I pump a pint of some neutral solvent through followed by a pint of the intended fluid before servicing through my pumps. I discard two pints of waste but have low risk of cross-contamination. I've followed this practice for almost three decades. I've never had a transmission fail but getting closer to 150k on my GX, I'll buy the replacement if necessary with no hesitation.
The GX is an outstanding vehicle. Outside of the early model Air Injection Pump and associated valve failures, I'm not aware of any recalls that affect performance in a meaningful way.

Good idea, perhaps I'll try that next time I fill diffs.

@Acrad, I just do full exchanges every 30-45k miles instead of drain and fills.

For the transmission fluid service or the install of a factory cooler and plumbing?
The fluid exchange only.

I was able to pick up several cases of WS fluid with free shipping and 25% off from the Toyota 25% off sale. I think there’s another one going on now.

The world Toyota in Atlanta is where I bought my stuff from
