You gotta give up an arm and a leg, maybe both arms and legs, and move to California!
I was Stationed at Beale AFB for 2 years. That was when I first got into real offroading and away from 5 lug pickups/tacomas.

Hoping for Denver/Front Range. I love driving in deep snow, too, so it should be a good fit. If I can stay working in Datacenters, I should be mint.

10 year plan is to get into doing work for USGS or similar doing sensor/instrumentation work. So Colorado would be fun for that.

My 21 GX460. Traded my 16 Tacoma for her. She's sitting on a full ICON suspension+uca's. Looking to get a new front bumper soon. I've been looking at the DV8 Offroad front bumper

Colorado would be an amazing choice. I’ve been doing some research into moving towards the east coast, but the off-roading wouldn’t be the same as what I have here. I’m just gonna have to suffer. Lol

As a flatlander, I am most envious.

Careful with that Flatlander remark. Being bred, born and raised a ridge running woodchuck and calling City folks Flatlanders growing up my punishment is to live in Mn. LOL.

No regrets. Over 20 years stationed up and down both the East and West Coasts my free time was always spent in the mountains. You can take the boy out of the Mountains but can't take the Mountains out of the man. Back when I could actually pack on elk quarter hunted Co. the NC for mulies and SW for elk. Those days have passed in the rear view mirror.

Our datacenter is lights out and has been since we got rid of our 4 mainframes, 2x prod, test, and dev owned not leased. Now just thousands of mid range and Windows servers. Even those are moving to the cloud and on prem hosting will eventually be a thing of the past at most places. Except for hosting companies.

I can live and work from anywhere and that has existed for quite a few years for me, and lots of others it is now an option as well. When you were in the Driftless Region awhile back you were headed to my neck of the woods. Not perfect but not bad either. Moved here from Western NC where I did my twilight tour from the Navy.

Get on I-35 and go North young man. In 4.5 hours you can be into decent off roading. Plenty of places to camp and also stay in hotels. You would have to get through the Cities and depending on the time of day can be congested. I'm not a fan of traffic I'm spoiled now and have been known to cross the River and go up through Wi. I no longer go off road to off road, done my share of exploring all over the Country. Now I spend mid to end of Sept. in the Sunset Country of Canada bird hunting. And month of Oct. on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Summers fly fishing the driftless Region, there are a few decent trails but nothing worth driving just to off road IMO.

Birds don't like pressure and I go places most don't or can't go. Get my fill of off roading with the dogs in the fall each year. If you can get enough time to go far enough North, past where I-35 ends, the wildlife isn't used to humans and are usually more curious than afraid. Means ~6 to 7 or more hours for you though.

At -30° renting a cabin is much more gooder than pitching a tent

And you never know what is waiting for you around the next bend in the road. Just a Forest Service Road, always get a kick out of it when someone says "just".

Puget Sound of Wa. State was my favorite place around the Country, the Olympics rule, the Cascades drool :D Well OK liked them both. Changed a lot since the 70's lots of people there now as well. 5 years in California, San Diego and Alameda. Like I said usually in the Mountains if not working. Not missing it there so much. Get some damn chlorophyll on those mountains please. Then again my friends from there when they come here claim that it is lousy with chlorophyll here.

Make the best of where you are at and it sounds like you are trying to. And make plans for what makes you happy. But be open to ideas, I never ever dreamed I'd end up where I am at in the middle of the Country. The headhunter was good, damn good LOL. This is the longest I've lived anywhere in my life and will end out my days here. No regrets, for me. Thank goodness not everyone feels the same way or there would be metric crap ton of people here as well.

Been traveling to Duluth since the 80s, absolutely love the Gunflint Trail. Here is Loon Lake. Great lakes is my second choice but that is contingent on being remote and I am still 100% on site. So it requires me getting a promotion.

New here and wanted to introduce myself. Just picked up a CPO '19 Premium. Literally owned by a little old lady with full above and beyond Lexus service history (Sorry for creeping but you left your home address in the Nav). This thing is pretty much flawless and looks brand new inside, outside and underneath. When it comes to vehicles I am super frugal. I ordered and purchased a Ford Maverick when they first came out. I will be moving within striking distance of a lot of nice hiking/camping/etc and intended to outfit my Maverick to do some light softroading but after the 167th recall and experiencing worn half shafts on stock suspension for the second time in 20k miles I decided to scrap the idea. Thankfully Carvana gave me more than I paid for it initially and I found this amazing CPO GX.

I have always loved the Lexus brand and especially anything with a V8. I am smitten with the GX and I didn't waste any time making it my own, front tinted windows, KMC Canyon 17x8.5 0 offset wheels and 265/70R17 Toyo Open Country ATIII tires. The ride is fantastic, the engine is silky smooth and the cabin is a place I enjoy spending time. Thankfully I work from home 4 days a week and use public transportation the one day I am in the office so gas isn't really an issue. I have a Beatsonic wireless connect interface arriving tomorrow and after the CPO warranty is up plan on doing a minimal ~2" lift, full skids and a front bumper. Thank you for all the knowledge I gained reading the forums in preparation for my purchase.

Creative parking. There are piles of Ice everywhere, still, from our snow storm craziness in January.

Moving up in the world,

After four years with my 470, I have decided to ruin another GX. This 2011 premium popped up locally and I pounced on it fairly quick.

I'm still enamored with how new and fancy it feels compared to my 470, but the modifications will start flowing promptly.

My current plan in order looks like:
-Diff breathers
-On-board air
-Rear Recovery point
-Ditch lights
-Rock sliders from my 470
-ARB skids from my 470
-MTs or Goodyear Duratracs between a 285/70R17 and a 33X12.5R17
-Hidden winch mount / Front recovery points
-Bilstein 8112s
-Snorkel
-E-locker
-KDSS removal or maybe controller? (I haven't really done much research into KDSS)

Nice to hear you'll be getting it trail ready!
Do GX470 skids and sliders have the same mounting points and cover the same area?
With a 3" lift, and aftermarket UCA's, I had BFG M/T 285/70R17's and they fit fine!
I don't think there's any type of disconnect for KDSS. I personally have never had an issue with it and I have an over the top build and do a good amount of off roading. Builds - R²M 2013 GX 460 Overland Build - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/r-m-2013-gx-460-overland-build.1104719/
For rear recovery, may I suggest a receiver with a D-ring, assuming you have a receiver. I have one of these along with the D-rings on my MetalTech bumpers
Don't forget to post pics throughout your build!

The manual KDSS controller from DrKDSS is an easy mod and I find it super useful for those 15-20 mph trails/fire roads.
Thanks for correcting me. Forgot about that, albeit, personally never needed it either. But at least it's there for those who do!

I wish it would come back in stock
