I don’t like one more piece that can fail. So I’ve avoided them on any of my trucks. My LX450 doesn’t have a skid plate under the oil pan, so it wasn’t an option there, in my opinion. I ripped off the oil level sensor wires on my LX in a snow bank. Then I burnt 7 bearings because I ran it dry. It was burning oil and I forgot to monitor because I trusted my oil light. Didn’t know it had pulled loose. I’d be concerned about something similar. I’m sure there is an argument for it if you have plenty of armor. I only do 1 oil change a year, so the mess isn’t a big deal to meHave any of you replaced your oil drain plug with the Fumoto drain plug valve?
I've got multiple skid plates and am looking to make oil changes a little easier on myself lol
I have (on all my cars over the years)Have any of you replaced your oil drain plug with the Fumoto drain plug valve?

Only issues are it make oil changes easier and less messy. I got the F-133 without a nipple.Any issues with it?
Do you use a hose during changes or nah?Only issues are it make oil changes easier and less messy. I got the F-133 without a nipple.

It’s a stout little ball valve with a self-locking lever and a clip that prevents the lever from unlocking itself (belt and suspenders). I think it’s effectively impossible for this thing to work itself open on the trail or the road.
It’s compact but does hang below the oil pan ~3/4” or so, but there is a stout frame member right next to it that is 1.5 to 2” lower. The skids are below this frame member, meaning plenty of buffer.
Unfortunately, the short nipple version wasn’t available when I purchased mine for the GX (out of stock or something) so I can’t connect a tube. I’ve had that on other cars.Do you use a hose during changes or nah?
That's something I saw someone mention. They use a hose during changes to ease.
Sounds like I need to reconsider. Stripping the oil pan is always on my mind, even with a torque wrenchI have a Fumoto my GX470 as well, and would never go back to a drain plug. The plug was pain to remove with skid plates, and I always spilled lots of oil over the skids.
In my opinion, the Fumoto is actually more reliable than a drain plug as 1) it's not removed/re-installed at every oil change (as a plug can easily be over-tightened and stripped or under-tightened and work it's way lopse) and 2) the design of the valve itself is such that it's not really possible for it to be accidently opened. The location of the GX oil pan/plug location is such that any object that hits the Fumoto would first need to rip off/bend the front differential mounts....hitting an object like this would cause the airbags to go off and would probably total the rig (at that point, the Fumoto would be the least of anyone's concerns).
For my Fumoto, I have a ~4" piece of flexible vinyl tubing clamped to it. I tuck the tubing up under the skid plate and pop it though the small access hole in the skid plate when I change the oil. It drains right into the pan.

I have a 470 so I think it's in a different location than the 460 in addition to being a spin-on filter instead of a cannister. It's angled downward on the front of the engine and can be accessed from the driver's side fenderwell without dropping a skid.that sounds awesome.
How are you reaching your oil filter when you do changes?
that sounds awesome.

This is definitely the move. Have budbuilt front skids on both the 460’s. Makes oil change maintenance so much more convenient.Budbuilt skids have an oil filter access panel designed for the 1UR-FE in 460.
I had one and took it off. The plug sits kind of high inside the oil pan, so you won’t get a nice full drain out of it. I would recommend leaving the original plug.Have any of you replaced your oil drain plug with the Fumoto drain plug valve?
