Do NOT put screws into the fuse box cover, that cover is sealed. I just had to replace mine because a mouse chewed a hole in it and the cheapest I could find it was about $75. I keep a glue trap on top of it with double sided tape to catch the little bastards.

Also mounting things up there could make it hard to open the fusebox cover, which is necessary sometimes.

So where else is a good place to mount the cutoff switch for the winch? It's like 4" tall...
I mounted mine in the plastic valance around the brake booster.

In hindsight it might not be the best place. Depends on how the compressor mount kit bash goes.

You could mount it to the side of the fuse box facing the engine. Should be plenty of room there.

So to swap the battery you need to remove the switch or it comes off w/the tie-down?
It comes off with the hold-down. You might notice the battery is new, the switch and associated wiring were really no inconvenience during the battery swap.

Do you have a picture of how you bolted it to the tie-down?
I don't think I do. But all I did was cut a short piece of perforated metal strapping, which passes under the hold-down, and is bolted to the switch on each side of the hold-down.

Just dropped truck off at Tru for a new pair of 5100s and lift coils.

And my LCAs need replacement.

Crap.

So I am going to cross over the 10k mark in repair with this service.

For the year.

I told my 4wd club and I am an early contender of the band aid award for the year year since its only April 2nd and I havent even done any really trails yet, other the a green and a couple of intermediate with light snow.

The clunking/knocking noise from the rear of my truck is back. Worse now. Looked at it while it was on the lift at the local dealer but couldn't find anything loose.

Starting to think maybe KDSS bushings?

Stumped here. Going to start taking it apart this afternoon.

Edit to add more details: The noise happens exclusively when turning left and the weight loads up on the right side suspension. Sounds like a knock or clunk-- definitely some kind of metal banging into another and then the noise won't happen again until the truck has been pointed straight or I turn right and the left side suspension loads up (taking the weight off the right side). Sound/clunk is occasionally accompanied by a slight metallic jingling, which makes me wonder if it's like the shock top hat or something around there. Thing is, I can feel the loud clunking noise when it happens; it's definitely something shifting around, but everything appears tight...

mine has been clunking on turns while at steep angles like my driveway. if you haven't already, check your skid plate bolts.

Hoping the payback in grins on the trail and with family will be worth the $10k in repairs! 👍

I was joking with my offroading group that if everything is addressed it may hit 20. I am suspecting I may have a bent housing and I am looking at my upgrade options.

I am the only IFS vehicle doing the advanced stuff.

Back in the day... 2002-3 when I had a 98 base model 5 lug taco for a daily and my first 4wd, an 83 long bed with a L52 5 speed.
I.miss the blue truck. That little red truck tried to punch my ticket a few times. Never when bejng pushed always when you let your guard down. I traded it on an extended cab 5 lug and drove that for 10 years.
I was stationed at Beale and offroading my beater at the sketchy offroad park in Marysville.
