Oh well, time flies!

I'll keep this update short-ish so let's get started.

Turbo decided to blow up without any warnings, it was just a mix of weird scratching sounds, alot blue smoke and loss of power.
This was 3 months ago. This left me without a car and i had to have something and fast. Luckily i found cheap and nice enough E39 530D locally, picked it up the next day.

Well, it was clear to me that a stock turbo ain't an option at all. I had a few options to choose from, compound turbo, Gturbo or something else. Something else won the game as i got a deal on a brand new Holset for "dirt cheap" and i jumped in. probably not the best turbo for this application but it leaves some coin for other mods along the winter.

Not on topic but slightly related, my sister wanted my BMW so bad i had to sell it. I was without a car once again.
Now i'm DDing an HJ60 with 12H-T swapped in.

1HZ crossover pipe for easier IC piping.

Looks like there is tons of room but it gets filled up quickly

Getting tight, had to bend the water pipe slightly, and remove one heat shield off of firewall.

This is where i'm at right now. Waiting for a v-band clamp and manifold studs/gaskets.

Oh well i have been slacking with updates.

Downpipe done.

"Tailpipe" too, minus mounting points.

Mildly polished and ready to be installed.

Then started working on airbox modification, first things was to remove this thingamajig.

The 180 bends sits too high, this is hood fully closed.

Solution.

Factory inlet didn't survive either.

New AC condenser.

New AC belt pulley.

Then it was time to start mocking up the charge pipes.

Sandblasted and cleaned, ready for primer and topcoat.

3 coats of zinc primer.

3 coats of topcoat, semi gloss black.

More sandblasting.

More painting. Ready to go.

Hayden transaver oil cooler, too bad i didn't choose the bigger one.

1HZ intake pipe tapped to m18x1.5 thread.

Oil feed line. I wanted a proper hydraulic oil line but the shop could not make one due to lack of proper fittings to the engine block side.

Finally to the final assembly.

Everything buttoned up. Moved to washing spot under its own power, first time in months. What a feeling!

Took it out for a quick spin.

Very nice work.
Does your exhaust get close to the tire routing it like that? I was considering the same thing. Have you thought of header wrapping the down pipe only by the firewall? Would make a nice foot warmer though.

Well, 33" mud terrains didn't rub. I have already ordered 35's we will see how they fit. They should.
Firewall heat protection is in works. I have not decided yet what route to take, header wrap over downpipe or an aluminium heat shield.

Finally got time for an update.

Had to build a new AC dryer holder as the original was rusted out badly. Cartridge looked like original one from 1993.

Sourced another steering wheel, used but in great shape. Original steering wheel was missing the top coating.

Interior plastic panels got a power wash. Too bad there is so much deep scratches.

Instrument panel and center console got a new paint.

I build a gauge pod too. Looks like pics of finished product didn't make it to this post.

So, i have been daily driving the HDJ for a little over a month now.
And i'm impressed.

I and many others were very skeptical about the HX35 being too big with number 16 turbine housing.
But it prove us wrong. There is plenty of go after 1800rpms. Yes, that's higher rpms than on stock CT26 but i'm still on stock tune.
I have to keep my fingers out of the IP, and the fun screws until i get all the mods approved by an inspection engineer. Got to make them legal.
That's not a big deal, i just need a dyno sheet and pass a smoke test. Now with stock tune there is really no visible soot.

looks mint, be keen to see how the hx35 performs once you wind her up a little. Also what A/C condensor is that? looks better than the stock ones, might have a look into that myself
