Bump on a post-holiday Tuesday... Can't wait to get these windows. Thinking about having the frames blasted and powdercoated. Should be a cheap way to make sure I never have to paint them. :D

I'm in...paid to the mighty Steve-O!!! Thanks for all the work Steve. MAF has been nothing but good to me!!

I think the dog pic's sold me!! My puppy will be quite happy with the sliding windows.

Cheers,
Matt

I'm in too......like you meluhha the dog pictures did for me as well!! Thanks Steve for your help on the order. Look foward to getting them!!

What can i expect to pay (roughly) for install?

Does anyone have a *good* pic that shows them "glued" in?

I also like the idea of having them powdercoated first... some of them look pretty rough.

I am about 75% in. Thanks guys!

Debating but will decide closer to the 20th.

Tinker might be able to help out with a rough guesstimate, if he feels comfortable posting pricing online. He's a professional glass guy. Maybe PM him if he doesn't post up...

As far as installed pics showing the glue, I suspect there aren't any. The whole point is that you can't see the glue in a good install. :)

(I can send you bigger versions of the installed pics I posted earlier in the thread if you want them...)

And powdercoating...no idea what it'll cost, but my neighbor ventured a guess that it shouldn't be more than $50 or so for the local guy here in town.

What you can see on the outside pic that Polarweasel posted of my truck is the sloppy filler, can't remember what the installer used, which is different material from the butyl tape that he used to secure the frame to the truck body. When the frame is attached to the body there is about an half an inch(?) of space between the inner frame and the outer frame that looks unfinished without some sort of filler. My installer broke his hand the day before the scheduled install and it also turned out to be a 100 degree day so the filler didn't go as cleanly as hoped for. We had agreed on a $100 installation price but he didn't charge me anything because of the cosmetic outcome. As you can see from the pics, dogs love them.

Polarweasel and Steve,
Thanks for driving this. I'm in. Called Steve yesterday and got on the list. I don't have a dog, but the dog pictures are great, Maybe I'll have to get a dog just to go with the windows. I never thought a dog could be a FJ60 accessory, but I guess it could work. Thanks for everything Steve, well be talking more in the future. Your efforts in this will pay off in the future, I'm sure.

P.S. - polarweasel, we'll have to get together, I'm just up the road in Wellington.

Pricing on slider window install...

Elite Auto Glass in Arvada CO. charged me $40 per side for their top of the line, hot glue that has awesome sticky properties. Took about 45 minutes. Only drawback is now I am looking for some wide enough welting to cover the joint between the window frame and the window opening b/c the glue adds another 1/4 inch between the two in some places, and stock fender welting will not cover such a gap and stay in place.

Maybe just some blue plumber's caulk?

My order is in! Thanks again Steve.

I'd be damned if we couldn't do a better job than Elite! My main auto glass guy has been doing this for over 20 years: we'd "tool" the adhesive so it looks finished, like the rubber gasket around the existing quarter windows & windshield.

Wouldn't use butyl although it's a great sealant if the outside temperature stays below 90. We've been using the heated Sika Ultrafast urethane since long before Elite started.

Waiting for 2badfjs to volunteer to be the guinea pig. Need to do some serious dealing with the boy over a pair of way custom sliders for my 84.

Oh, yeah! We'd normally charge $50 a side to install, plus urethane. Should come out a little over $120 for both sides. (But that's for normal people & there are none of those on this board.)

And, by the way, if someone who already has a pair could tell me how thick the glass is (Overhanger?), we could do custom color glass, like bronze or dark gray if it's 1/8". So when the Weasel pulls his apart to powdercoat the frames (as I will), we can make patterns of the glass.

Also, I've been thinking of making a horizontal grill out of 3/16" steel rod, maybe 2-3" apart, so my dogs can stick their snouts out but not their heads. Crap in the air is bad for their eyes, & I don't want them biting pedestrians if I leave them in the back in a parking lot (they're mellow, but the big one could do some serious damage).

And we're in Castle Rock, right off I25, X184.

Sliding glass window thickness is 4mm according to my calipers, slightly more than 1/8". Also, there is a gentle curve in each glass panel that has a depth of very roughly 6-7mm - it ain't flat. I think I remember seeing some sort of grill in the sliders of Gary Coberly's 61 that looked factory. But you know Gary, he could have made it himself and it would look factory. ;) Some dogs do become very aggresively possessive when in "their" truck. I know mine do and closing the windows most of the way when they are alone in the back is a necessity for us. A grill arrangement wouldn't hoit.
