I work for a company that makes digital speedometers for Motorcycles and ATV.

In one week we are releasing a GPS with a wheel sensor speedometer, engine temperature, volt meter and tachometer.

My FJ40's gauge cluster has not worked for a long time. The only gauge that works is fuel.

I was hoping to get some feedback from anyone out there who could give me some thought about this unit for a replacement gauge.

It is retailing for $279.95

Will tach work for a 4-6-8 cylinder vehicle?

What is the size?

The tach works on any gas engine. I have a similar digital tach we make here on my SB350 and it works fine.

Here is a picture on a pair of bars. It is about the size of the speedometer portion of a gauge cluster.

It is a little small, but I thought for $279 to have a permanent fixed GPS with wheel speed, volt meter, tach and temp it was a pretty good deal.

Pretty cool! Have been a trailtech user on my dirtbikes since they came out.
But I see one HUGE negative with this unit....NO COLOR GPS!?!?
I could never ever ever go back to a B&W GPS, sorry! Ill stick to my 60csx.
I look at those screen shots and it makes me feel like I am in 1997???

Voyager GPS/Speedometer

Okay,

I finally mounted a unit on my 69 FJ40. I used the dash panel screws to attach a bracket over the existing speedometer.

I used epoxy to attach a magnet to the inside of the rim of the front drivers-side tire and used the "C" bracket in this kit to and this cable to for wheel speed.

For the engine temp sensor I bought a reducer to use the 1/8-28th BSPP sensor since I have a Chevy SB350. There are also other Temp Sensors available.

The tach wire wrapped around the sparkplug wire and the power connection was easy. I also had to use a 2 foot extension for the wheel sensor and the temp sensor to reach the dash.

For me it was a nice replacement for a gauge cluster (minus fuel) all for under $300.

I also have the experimental software Trail Tech has displaying a tach bar graph, like in this video, on the main page.

As dreaming it's free .. I can imagine speedo / tach / gps etc etc all in separate " pods " / screens that you can attach together ( if you bought all 'em ) but if not .. you can just buy GPS or Speedo .. I mean like modular dash ..

I don't see why you need the wheel speed sensor if you have GPS built in.

The water temp sensor will be a giant PITA for some. I'm trying to do this now on my 22RE with an Autometer mechanical gauge and it's been a huge hassle.

I think the price will make it a hard sell. I know it does a lot of stuff, but I can do the speedo and GPS stuff with my phone now, and a set of good gauges are a lot cheaper for the other stuff.

Nice for a motorcycle, but seems a bit small for a vehicle.

I'm a techy junky, and while intriguing I LOVE the look of old guages and clusters.

The wheel speed sensor is more accurate thank GPS speed. Wheel speed also allows you to have accurate no settable odometer. GPS speed tends to lag in comparison to Wheel.

The water temp sensor just required an reducer to match 1/8-28 fitting. Otherwise I would have used a inline sensor. A couple of lines looked to be about 22mm or 25mm.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I have had my FJ40 for about 12 years and never had working gauge cluster. This was a nice compact way to get the information I needed.
