1) Anyone have pictures they can share of foam between the A/C Condenser and radiator? I have read threads where folks mention this as part of getting their A/C colder at idle/low speed. I have searched and not found pictures. I have never seen it on any 80's. One of my own 80's I have had since 2001 and 110,000 miles never had it.

2) Anyone have pictures they can share of foam below the radiator tank. I have read threads where folks mention this. I have searched and not found pictures. The FSM diagram is an exploded view so hard to tell placement.

I know all the other things to do to get colder A/C at idle/low speed. Yes, I have the foam at the top of the radiator between the radiator and removable cross member. No, I do not have foam between the shroud and radiator, but the fit is tight all around and that would affect engine more anyway. Yes, I have foam at the top sides of the radiator. Engine temps are no issue. I know about pusher fans. All the A/C components (including condenser) are fairly new and/or in great shape.

Thanks!

I picked up a huge roll of D-channel neoprene foam. I ran it along the top of the radiator. It wasn't cheap but the amount I bought lasted more than 10 years. I gave away some of it to friends.

I use the pipe insulation you can get at any hardware store. It’s for 1/2” copper pipe.

$2-3 for three feet. Cuts easy and you just cut it bigger and wedge it in. Doesn’t absorb water also.

Today is the day I will get all my foam in however I figure that out!

I re-examined the Toyota I installed in 2011. I see that the good used OE LX450 radiator I replaced it with did not have the approx 1/2 inch foam on the face of the sides and bottom. I will add that. I had installed foam at top of the radiator. That one is hard to miss 😎.

Pictures of where I put foam this weekend.

Pics 1 & 2: Top front face of radiator to cross - the most obvious - and ALL forward facing sides and bottom to front clip just like on an OE radiator (I used Frost King R734H Sponge Rubber Foam Tape 3/4" W X 7/16" H X 10' L, Black. Quantity was just right)
Pic 3: Perimeter of fan shroud (gap was tiny to nonexistent, I have never seen foam on a shroud but it would make sense, and shrouds break easily, so I used highly compressible Frost King L342H Polyurethane Foam Tape 1/4-Inch, White). Quantity was - plenty!
Pics 4, 5, 6: below A/C condenser and below radiator tank. (THERMWELL Frost King AC43H Air Conditioner Weatherseal Tape, 2-1/4 by 2-1/4 by 42-Inch) Quantity was just about right. COuld have used a few more inches.
As I started this thread with "I have never seen foam between the A/C Condenser and radiator," and the A/C condenser is smaller in area than the radiator, I decided not to block a bunch of the radiator with foam between the two. Sure, lots of air can still go around the condenser sides and top. If I feel like the radiator is not getting enough airflow I can yank the bottom foam out. I just used some spray adhesive on the bottom surface of the foam. That piece does not block any radiator fins.
For below radiator tank, I dunno. Will it insulate the tank by reducing airflow below that plastic or prevent *some* recirculating of hot engine compartment air just like the top foam. Possibly at idle? There is a FSM picture of foam in the area - is it this or face of radiator? This is just stuffed in place. Maybe it will blow out on the highway anyway.

I also installed a @landtank modded blue fan clutch. I previously ran the stock 1993 "black" fan clutch. In 2011 I put 6,000 CST oil in that and it worked. But the "roar" seemed gone. Recently I decided to swap in a "newer" blue fan clutch that seemed to be working fine out of my lower mileage 1996 LX450 freed up by an LS swap. In hindsight and after moving all three by hand, I believe the "newer" blue fan clutch to offer the least resistance. As expected the Landtank modded blue fan clutch pulls way more air just at idle on a cool day. I'm excited for colder trail A/C in Utah next week and colder A/C around town.
