I mean it ain't perfectly machined but I used high temp RTV in the threads. I will put some on the shaved parts to fill in the valleys when the hose clamp tightens down

Well I put the home made metal adapter on. Got the engine up to 200° and no leaks.

Well the plan today was to put in a new clutch MC. But I noticed that there was a vibration coming the rear. Figured maybe a wheel spacer was coming loose. NOPE. Very rear ujoint ate itself. No big deal, just got the part number off of the ujoint. 331, had one at the parts store. Get home, drop the drive shaft, remove the ujoint.... caps are different sizes. God damn it. ID is the same but the OD is larger. The old caps are beat to sh!t so I cant use them. Said f#*k it and will go to the parts store in morning.

Got the new ujoint in. I will say that I am really impressed with the quality of the steel (being from China and all). The whole cap is steel and the rubber sleeve is inside of the cap. I left the name of the box showing if anyone wants to try them out. I got them from a driveline specialty shop. They have rebuilt a few differentials for my shop and I have been impressed their quality.

Well today I got my clutch MC on.When I was doing the dual diaphragm brake booster job I noticed a droplet on fluid on the boot. The reverse bleeder I bought made it a 30 min job. Took me 5 minutes to bleed the system solo. Highly recommend adding one to the toolbox. I got the V5 bleeder from Summit.

I just saw this.................... OUCH!

Reports say he's totaled? Hope you are ok and more pics?

Nope. Too much work went into this to let it go. I just need to find a good tub and swap it over. Every thing still works on it to include all the lights.

Just body work is needed. Drove home fine with no issues.

How was the drive back without a windshield?
Not bad. I'm used to eating bugs because of motorcycles. Tonight I am going up to my friends property to try pulling that front pillar back out. I've tried here but come alongs don't get enough ass to pull back out. So the plan is use 2 5k straps to hold the vehicle in place and use that 12k winch around a tree to pull the pillar.

Well @TRAIL TAILOR here is an update since you asked. It has been 2 weeks since the insurance company had me take it for an estimate. Still no word on that. Called the company that did the estimate and got the good ol run-a-round "It should be done Friday or beginning of next week" answer.

Things have gotten worse for Gossamer. The front fender that got pushed in ended up pinching the main positive cable between it and the intercooler plumping. Was sitting at the bottom of my driveway (waiting for a 40 to driveby) and heard a loud pop. Smoke started pouring out of the hood. By the time I got into my driveway the whole cab filled with smoke. Well it fried all the grounds in the engine boot and the whole harness from the battery to the connector going to the ignition switch. I am not upset about it because for 1) 4bt only needs electricity for that fuel shutoff solenoid to run.
2) anyone who has been inside of that dash knows that the wiring harness/splicing was absolutely atrocious. After being balls deep in that dash twice for the heater core, I was already wanting to redo it.

That's a scary thing seeing the wrong kind of smoke coming out of the wrong place. Doesn't sound like it started a fire so at least that was good.

No fire, close though. Just a lot of melted insulation now all clumped together. So a new harness will definitely need to be put in. I happen to enjoy doing electrical work because I am weird like that.

Well got it running. Just ran a jumper wire from the alternator to the hold wire on the fuel shutoff. The jumper did get hot because that's a lot of amps getting pushed through a tiny wire. I will try to figure out a different spot to connect it. More importantly, none of that magical electrical smoke came out the harness.

Well I got Gossamer running today with a jumper wire to the fuel shut off. Drove it up to the storage unit I got for it till this whole insurance ordeal is over.

Burnt up wiring harness couldn't keep that mean son of bitch down.

Well insurance called. They are going to total it. 10k offer if they keep it and 6k if I keep it. I laughed at them. Looked over the evaluation of the vehicle value. Didn't mention in it the 4k for the new H55F I just put in it last October or the 3k in rims and tires I just put on it for SAS. I pointed out that the vehicle is listed on the estimate as a gas vehicle. Told them that the estimate was garbage. So now I have to turn in receipts for all that. They are going to figure how they can verify the diesel swap into the truck.

Let the nickle and dime chess game begin. @TRAIL TAILOR if you have receipts on the bumpers you made and Monstaliner job, I would appreciate it greatly.

Well pray to the Cruiser Gods. I finally figured out why they were only offering 11k for them to retain and me 7k to retain. They put my odometer reading as UNKNOWN and compared to 60s with 211k miles on them. So I sent them the odometer mileage. 23,363 miles.

Ok well the battle is over cruiser heads. Insurance made the final stance at 15k for them to retain and 11k for me to retain. So I guess Gossamer will officially die. Winter is knocking and the motorcycle rides are getting cold in the morning. This truck was brought back from the salvage life once before. Wyoming and Jason created a monster and I absolutely fell head over heals just when I thought I couldn't love another vehicle more than my 62. Even during the the times when I was driving it on the trail or interstate and the transfer H/L selector pin would fall into the transfer case. I still had a smile fixing it on the road. Even when the plastic step down adapter ate itself, I still loved it. Even when the beast finally ate that damn gas center force clutch and caused me to miss SAS3, I couldn't get enough of it. The worst time was taking the dash apart for the second time because after the first time I learned the leak was coming out of where someone soldered the heater core to the copper firewall tubes. Even in the dead of winter sitting in my driveway freezing my ass off replacing the core and tubes, I never dreamed of getting of getting rid of this rig. I want to thank everyone who helped share some great memories with Gossamer and I. Trust me when I say those memories don't die. In death, life can be created.

Disappointing to hear that you let it go, that was a great rig. Winter is creeping up though, so I fully agree with your decision. Good luck with finding a new project!
