This weekends project.... flushing the heater core, replacing the fan relay, and reinsulating the duct work.

Well got it about half way done. Decided that since I am waiting for things to dry (glue, adhesive spray, and paint) might as well enjoy a glass since it is a Saturday night. Cheers.

There will actually be a couple there. @The Phoenician got a 4bt put in his. We will have to get a photo of the 4bt FJs together.

My neighbor snapped a photo of me working on the heater core. She told me to put it on the forum. So here is me and all torn apart dash glory.

Well I gotta remember to keep this forum up to date. So since the last time I updated, I have done
- Hooked up a washer tank/pump.
- Insulated the doors.
- Replaced the hood bumpers
- insulated the metal cover plate for the shifters to the transmission/OD
box/transfer.
- Did the 4Runner wiper arm upgrade.

Yesterday I dug back into the heater core since last time the copper firewall tubes were soldered to the core, I wasn't able to fix the leak. I ordered a core and tubes from Cruiser Yard. I got the heater core in, no leaks. The tubes had me worried though. They came with the engine sides bent, cracked, and split. I had to hacksaw the ends off and reshape them. I honestly thought they were going to leak. When I tighten the hose clamps it caused one of the tubes to crush in on itself. I had to repair it. After I got it together, took for a drivan with no leaks.

Tasks to still complete
- New clutch slave cylinder, has a slight drop forming but not a drip. Got the cylinder already.
- getting the bracket made for the front bumper so I can steal @TRAIL TAILOR 's hammock idea. I read your forum on Goss and loved it.
- Going to order some DBA rotors and pads for the front.
- Got gear oil to do the diffs and drive train.

Did you read all the way up this point?

So went to go camping and fishing this weekend. Made it up the canyon by my house and stopped to get propane tanks filled. Got out and saw the truck pissing coolant like a dinosaur. I got a ride to hoses and clamps to try fixing it. Nothing worked. Saw the plastic adapter tried eating itself. So I duck taped the s*** out of it to ride it back down the canyon. That plastic was never meant to get that much heat. So good on it for lasting this long. Well I couldn't find a parts store that carried a 2-1/2 hose step down to a 1 1/4. So Home Depot plumbing saves the day. I made one from bits and pieces.

Well I got it in, no leaks past 180°. Still so much more to do.

Alright well since the engine pissed out all it's coolant Friday. I decided today to an additional fix. Heater hoses.....On a 4BT one is supposed to come off of the thermostat housing to supply the delightful 220° during the winter. The other is supposed to be connected to outlet housing (keeps the flow faster). This engine had that hose going back into the head through a pipe (picture of it in my hand) that was put in a freeze spot instead of going to the outlet side of the engine. I also put a cutoff valve in to save my nuts from sweating so much during the summer. I also did more plumbing today. In the pictures you can see a T fitting that I added. For now it has a plug in it. On 4/6BTs there is usually a drain cock at the highest point for burping the system. I will add that later.

So if you have been following this since the beginning, you know heating has always been an issue with this vehicle. Well now I have pretty much replaced everything except for the radiator, top hose, and thermostat.

You used a Fernco flexible coupling and PVC s40 for your coolant line, s40 pvc max temp is 73F and only to be used on cold water  o_O
Well damn it. Hopefully it will last till I can get a steel adapter. :censor:

So far it hasn't sprang a leak after getting iy up to 220.

Got any recommendations @Hojack ?

Thanks @Hojack. I got to work this morning and measured the hose adapter/hose that came off of it Saturday. I just can't seem to find an adapter that goes from 2.25" to 1.5". I think if it will last a little while, I will get a hold of a machine shop and get that made. God custom parts are so damn expensive.

I guess the hump on the galv street 90 would work with a hose clamp but I’d use a barbed hose adapter instead of the 1-1/4” galv nipple.
Yeah I am going to shave down the ridges on the fitting that are used to help tighten the fitting ( had to get rid of the 90 and use a straight), paint it to look perdy and help from rusting, and use hose clamps to let the lips act like a nipple flaring.

I know I know... to help prevent nipple flaring, I should use pasties. :couchpotato:
