I am sure Justin's is about as good as it gets so take a look at his if you already haven't. I would guess he has bigger wider axles on that beast.

Chuck broke his 60 rear axle twice with a 350 and 36's. I witnessed it break the second time and he barely gave it any gas at all. Heavy rigs.

I think I was there both times. Second time because the axle housing was already bent is what I thought he told me. I don't think he had it trussed either.

Who's this Chuck guy? He sounds like a pretty cool chap, you guys should bring him out sometime. :D

Btw, I do think you'll be fine with stock axles and 35's, as long as you upgrade the front bifs' to chromoly. 37's would be very iffy.

Seems to me there's a way to use mini truck outers to center the rear axle and make it a bit stronger. Have to google it. Rear disk brakes are over rated... Don't put too much effort and money into that. Yeah, they dissipate heat better, but drums actually are stronger because of mechanical advantage. That's why trains and 18 wheelers still use them :)

We used a cruiser center and mini outer with disks for the 2UZ conversion in Florida since we were using a mini xfer case. The mini axle housing OD is almost exactly the same for the cruiser axle ID. Basically you sleeve the Cruiser housing with the mini housing and weld it up. The battle wagon routinely breaks rear FJ60 axles with a 4 cylinder Isuzu diesel.

I'm guessing he's breaking short side shafts, like I always do in my front axles. In an offset rear axle, when you throw down torque the short side always gets hammered because its too short to give. The long side can twist a little before breaking. Centered rears seem to take the abide better. I never had one iota of trouble from my 4Runner rear axle with 37's and a 4.3 Chevy. Can't remember how many times I broke that damn front axle.

And on a related note, anyone want to come pick up some metal for the recycler? Should be a nice chunk of change. If not, I'm gonna call one of the dudes off Craigslist before my neighbors come after me.

My condolences on the passing of your 55 :pig:

A moment of silence from the hernia I have from moving her:p

:D:D:D

Sorry for the hernia. Jess mentioned the fact that "Greg came over to help you move it all the time, then you just chopped it up!" Think she was secretly happy to see the old girl go.
