I think this ride shall be renamed the weekend of carnage since almost everyone broke something.

that doesn't sound good. It looks like a good time and I hope everyone had a fun a and safe trip.

Looking forward to more pics.

Looks like you guys had a good time!! Hate I missed it. Can't wait to hear the story Nick :)

The "how it happened" isn't that impressive, the "how the #%$& do we get this back to camp, in the mud, at night story is WAAYYYY better, and because it was at night I am not sure if anyone actually captured the recovery "unit" in action.

it was just one of those situations that progressively got worse. what started as a relatively minor event turned into a long night.

others got better pics but here is really crappy iPhone pic from somewhere around 10 or 11 PM

It didn't start out to be a night run, it just kinda morphed into one.

Sent from my detachment from reality.

Yeah, it was supposed to be a quick run up 6. The extraction became the Saturday night run.

Ah... One of those nights...

Know them well....

Glad you got out and are home.

I will keep any eye out for a complete front axle. They show up in the pick and pull every once in a while. (Edit.. NM looks like Steve has you covered)
Still keep an eye out. My source is not a definite seller, only a definite owner. :D

Too dark for any videos - which sucks cause they would've been awesome - but I did get a good number of quality pics. Might be a few days before I can get them up though. (Too bad this wasn't a TLCA event; this woulda made a hell of an article for Trails!) :wrench:

What Matt said in the quote below is correct. Rance, it wasn't even dark yet when we went out. Although, like a "night run", "just a quick trail ride" very often has a similar fate.

Is that a birfield on the PS sticking out? Did he snap the knuckles off?

Nope, it's a Longfield! ;p And yes, he did, but singular - "knuckle". PS only; DS was just doing its own thing after the PS gave up.

Sheered off the studs and dropped the knuckle housing or cracked the tube?

Sheared the studs. The ball could have easily received damage during the extraction though.

Yeah, I will definitely be checking my knuckle studs on a regular basis after this. Steve can confirm this, but I think they actually found one of the studs on the ground that had backed out cleanly. Found 2 sheared ones and I am not sure they ever found the 4th one.

Very common problem. I updated to the new studs and lock-tited mine when I had the Cado.

These were the new studs and they were lock-tired. I had two studs sheer at hawk pride in April so I replaced with the new studs. Only went GSMTR since they were replaced. After talking to Andy, I think the threads in the knuckle had been stretched in the first failure at hawk pride. Moral of the story, check them every ride and during the ride...

Seems like a good check of all the suspension bolts would be a good idea. When my shock bolt fell off the bottom one was very loose and the opposite side was loose as well. Matt said he checked my steering last time the truck was in the shop but I'll be checking everything again before the next run.

Which might be a while for me since I broke the birf right after I "fixed" my shock by removing it. Looks like my trailer money is going to go to Longs and a front axle rebuild...

Carnage report:

Nick: No spark, engine won't run; Front knuckle destroyed, possibly axle ball and Long marred up during recovery; winch cable frayed during recovery; 1 shock mount broken off, later resulting in the front coil spring repositioning its seated position from the axle to atop the drag link.

Sam: 1 birf; 1 shock broken.

Ted: Smashed DS door frame at the latch; Temporary clutch problem.

John: Rear 3-link upper Y-arm heim joint.

Josh: No real carnage, just a flop and a leaking transmission.

Sid: Propane regulator.

Hunter: 4 windows, minor engine problems and 4WD inop.

Ben: Minor engine/throttle issues.

Andy: Fueling issues - luckily not on the trail though; 1 shock MIA.

Steve: 80A fuse, 1 tire bead slipping out from under the beadlock ring causing a slow leak, 2 shackles that worked loose (but didn't fall off luckily). Also had the leaf spring center pin to repair before rolling off the trailer as well as the front ARB internal line break in the new Tacoma.

Matt, Roger and Jason sustained little to no damage that I know of. There were a few other trucks that I didn't know but didn't hear of anything with those either.

Feel free to amend the list with anything I missed.

Miranda thinks this is quite fitting for the Franken80 now...
