Miranda thinks this is quite fitting for the Franken80 now...
I have been behind the Franken80 and I don't think there is a flat spot big enough to stick that too.

it was just one of those situations that progressively got worse. what started as a relatively minor event turned into a long night.
others got better pics but here is really crappy iPhone pic from somewhere around 10 or 11 PM
Daaaamn. Did it rain during the recovery? Looks like a knucle sheared off.
Posted from a brick.
Carnage report:
Nick: No spark, engine won't run; Front knuckle destroyed, possibly axle ball and Long marred up during recovery; winch cable frayed during recovery; 1 shock mount broken off, later resulting in the front coil spring repositioning its seated position from the axle to atop the drag link.
Sam: 1 birf; 1 shock broken.
Ted: Smashed DS door frame at the latch; Temporary clutch problem.
John: Rear 3-link upper Y-arm heim joint.
Josh: No real carnage, just a flop and a leaking transmission.
Sid: Propane regulator.
Hunter: 4 windows and minor engine problems.
Ben: Minor engine/throttle issues.
Andy: Fueling issues - luckily not on the trail though; 1 shock MIA.
Matt, Roger, Jason and Myself sustained little to no damage that I know of. There were a few other trucks that I didn't know but didn't hear of anything with those either.
Feel free to amend the list with anything I missed.
That's a long list from for just under 2 days of wheeling. Just to keep things fair I do believe Steve had a persistent flat tire and blew an 80 AMP fuse mid way up trail 3 just as the rain was coming in![]()
I believe Nicks stud breakage has it's roots in the day before. He was trying to get up Trail 7 and tried to pull a Tim Cameron move which failed miserably, this is where the shock mount was destroyed and ultimately lead to the spring coming out later on Saturday morning. It seams the shock was also working as a limiting strap.
Yes he did, you should post that picture of the side pull you had going on to keep him from falling off the mountain while he aired it up and changed his fuse.
I wondered if the fact that his steering arm served double duty as a spring cup while he was backing down might have contributed to the problems later that evening. It did have the whole weight of the front passenger bouncing on it while he backed off the hill....
And did anyone else get eaten up? My feet and ankles look like I got in some chiggers or something and it is awfully unpleasant right now.
FWIW can't believe nobody mentioned running into Ian from Extreme 4X4 on Saturday, nice guy but a fugly looking buggy
In looking at Jason's pic, it would seem as though he went straight to the Rock Garden - no wonder he broke so quick. Not exactly the trail I'd pick to do a shakedown on.Oh yeah, forgot about that. yeah, seemed like a nice likable guy. Agreed it was not my cup of tea, but it did suck about his buggy. For those reading, it was his personel buggy that he has been working on for several years. Not related to the show and just out for a little shakedown run and some camping with his son. First time out of the shop and on a simple ledge he tweaked the upper link mount for the rear lower links and the cross-member sheared off the main frame. Ended it before it even really began.

Came across to me as a nice guy chatted with the wife and I for a bit.
Yeah, the blown fuse caused my front locker switch to deactivate making me open front. That, combined with the flat front tire made things very difficult through that little mine field. And that picture doesn't do it justice. Kind of like coming down 18 after that, he was at the top, we thought he was done and the end was in sight, but it still took another hour and a winch (or two) to go the last 20 feet.. (read 18A - the Ted and Steve bypass)
Okay, that makes more sense now. I am extremely susceptible to poison plants and I was wondering how that had shown up so fast; Especially considering I'd made a point to shower and scrub both nights in hopes to avoid it. Definitely looks more like Chiggers or something. And did anyone else get eaten up? My feet and ankles look like I got in some chiggers or something and it is awfully unpleasant right now.
I was putting on repellent with Deet quite a bit but they got around it and down into my socks and shoes! Guess I'll have to spray my shoes too from now on! Anybody find any ticks? I killed a few there but didn't ever find any embedded. The little $&@$ got me too and I was using deet.

I didn't find any ticks, just a bunch of bug bites...
