I have been thinking about the snorkel thing...might spend the money on a Tuffy console instead. CCOT has them on sale right now for $210. That makes more sense in my hood, actually.

Swank - you're not getting the CCOT console right? I bought the deluxe tuffy from liquid offroad for 250ish (+25$ shipping IIRC). Only 40 bucks more w/ TLCA discount. not sure if that makes a diff. hth

Re-bushed?

I bet I can use that word in a sentence!

You may want to check with Alcan Spring in Grand Junction, CO about their spring prices vs. your re-arch prices.

Everyone who runs 'em loves them!

As far as the Dakkar thing goes, I really don't want to mess with all of that.
Dakkar lift = $1300 + shipping + doing it by myself + alignment
Spring rearch = $600 + tax + alignment (unless it's built into the cost) + I don't have to jack with it.

Hmmm, you know what, it is...

I wonder if the quality is as good...

swank just get lift springs you weeny and stop fawking with the stockers inless you srping it over...to pull the old ones you are gonna need new u-bolts and bushings which was already said.

I did a spring over in a tiny ass garage all by myself at the age of 19 with no air tools dont even tell me you cant u-bolt 7 nuts to replace a single leaf pack at a time.

hell you could the front one weekend and the rear the following weekend. it would look funny but it would work.

all ya have to do is chock the wheels jack up one side after loosing the u-bolt nuts and removing the shock (2 bolts)...i used a a cheater on a socket. most of my bolts broke right off so i only actually had to take like 2 nuts off the u-bolts. After you have all the bolts and shackle pins loose jack it the rest of the way up and pull the old pack. the other side will hold the axle right where it needs to be. remove the old bushings and pins put in the new ones and bult up the pack. you will more than likly have to jack up the truck to a higher or lower to get the shackle on but its no biggy....its so freakin easy dude.

its so much better going this route then fawking with old springs...hell if ya drive it down here and stay for a week we can spring it over at my house..

it should only take you a day to do one side...easy cheesy...dont do s*** half assed..

you will prob save money this way by doing it. because after one of the springs goes and you truck is 2 inches higher on one side you'll be kicking yourself in the head.

that and alignments are even easier...if you have a tape measure and a 17mm wrench your set duuuuudddeee.....

shoot me some love at aim if ya need help or a kick in the head....:)

Now that I think about it, Mace said he got a quote of $250 for the front Dakkar springs...I need to talk to him - If I could get just the springs, I could work something out on the install...hmmm

Just want to think this through a little more. Thinking about what Jman said, I really don't want to be smacking myself in the head in 6 months or a year while the ass end of my truck is dragging...
Finally some sense ;)

Talk to Kurt about a set of just the Dakkar springs.

I am sure he can help ya.

Do it right the first time and you will not have to do it over again a bunch of times ;)

BTW, keep the stock springs in case you want to do a Springover ;)

I just talked to Rob over at Liquid Offroad and he can get me the front Dakkars for $93 each and the rear for $140 each - and that's heavy duty. I may only need med duty - I need to read up on it.

Plus, I can just swing out and pick them up. He's out in Greenville so I can visit some family, get new parts and make a day of it.

Poor old springs. I really can't complain about them, but yeah, if I'm going to yank them all out anyway, I may as well just put new ones in there and be done with it.

Why can't this s*** every be cheap and easy at the same time?

And I'm not going SOA. Way too much for me - though it would be pretty funny to drop the kids off at school in something that looked like Mace or Al's rigs. :D

wtf?! i have been away too long i guess. thought you were going to sell it and now you are doing mods. a snorkel? yeah right....

:flipoff2:

No, wasn't going to sell it, I was either going to set it on fire or drive it into the lake. The more I got serious about the idea, the more I started looking at 80s. The more I started looking at 80s, the more I liked my junk...so I've decided to say screw it, and start spending a little here and there on my poor old beater to improve it. My springs are starting to show their age, so yeah...it's time for mods.

Funny thing is, the better half is on board with this - just taked with her about it, in fact. The idea of spending $6-10k on a new truck wasn't sitting well with her, but throwing $5k at my beater over 6 months is a grand idea ( ) so that's what we're going to do. Damnedest thing, isn't it?

I had NO idea that you could buy Dakkar springs for that cheap!!! That is definately what I'm going to do. That looks a lot better to my bank account than a set of parabolic springs does. Awesome info.

Sounds like we have similar better halves :)... You'll be much happier with mods on a 60 than a stock 80...

My truck is set up more for camping and less for crawling. Don't let them talk you into a SOA unless you really think you need it or want it. I think the lift SUA handles better under more conditions than the SOA.

But, if you can do the SOA cheaper, it might be worth it :)...

I second what Lowtide said. You won't regret the OMEs. Take some pics of the install so we can see the improvements.

Have you done any MIG welding? Those Tuffy boxes are pretty easy to make out of scrap steel. Maybe not as pretty but nearly free if you have a scrap yard near by.

Also if you are looking at 33's after the lift, some of the online and franchise tire places have used tires for sale that are usually good for a season or two. I got 5 tires with 50-60% tread for 50$!!!
You can also leave your name with them and they can check nationally for what you want. Those tires I got came from a franchise out east.

"What's your dogs name?
"Cody"
WHACK "Be still Cody"
Fricking Hilarious.

Fantastic! The H4's might be easier to install before the bullbar is in place. :)

well glad to hear your keeping your junk. now you can't back out of going to LSLC roundup next year. you have to go show off your junk with its mods etc.

i wish i had some $ to dump into mine. i have to still scrounge up the money for either a smog pump/pully since mine bit the dust. its bad enough not having a/c, but no power steering on top of that really sucks. don't get me started on the windshield gasket, new carpet and brakes....

Dude, I've got two words for you. "Trail Rig" :D

Yank the carpet out of it, rhinoline it and be done. Hell, Rhinoline the whole interior - dash and all.

As for the smog pump, everyone is saying you can yank it, gut it and go...but your bearings are shot, right?

I've got an extra (leaky) AC compressor if you want it - I wonder if you can stick it in place of the smog pump? It's not like that things going to pass the smog test anyway...you want it, let me know and I'll send it to you. (Also, with the compressor, I think you can mod it so it's basically on-board air...I think...)

the bearings got to be shot on it..or i assume they are. the thing is freaking locked up big time. i just bypassed it for now and have not removed it and taken it apart yet. yeah passing smog is not a concern ;)

i'm torn as far as turning it into a trail rig. i'm really looking to go the same route as you on this...expedition rig. i think it could still be one with it rhinolined on the floor, but that would be about the extent of it.

i'll let you know about the a/c compressor.
