Dave @afraptor22 Slides on the new Blackbox Landcrusier box - doh! this box has the endplates for 6L80 gm tranny / same bolt pattern as the 8L90e.but just 1/2" shy. A quick call to Northwest Fab and
Kris points us in the direction of the Advance Adapter 3/4" spacer -which is from the Atlas cases.

4.56 first gear and doubler - with .65 overdrive should be a nice combo for an 80 with stock 4.11 and 35's given 355hp and 385tq. ??? 7th gear is the same .845 ratio as the 80 tranny.....so if theres ever a jump to 4.88s.....the .65 8th gear will offset those nicely if ever jumping to 37s/4.88.

The header heat shields have quite a bit of standoff. So on the drivers side - the lower shield was removed to clear the steering linkage and with a little wiggling/ and relocating of some drivers side brake lines......it squeezes in.

We got it sitting at home at 1deg tilt- then raised it up to 3deg for tranny angle and decided to yank out the headers and do some clearancing. Here it is with straps repositioned and sitting at 1.2 deg tilt or so. Firewall wise - this has about a finger width of clearance on the closer pass side where the head corner is closest.

Cool stuff. Are you going to try to pass CA emissions with this or registering out of state? What's the plan for ECU?

No plans to deal with Cali emissions right now- I have 3 rigs with cali registrations ( all pre smog 1975 or older) .....so this will be reg'd elsewhere and not throw any red flags as anything other than a vacation property rig. California is rumored to be cracking down on out of state reg's........but thats really for dewds registering $250k exotics or RV's and trying to skirt the hefty 10% sales tax $ vs a $2500 80series albino burro.....aka HonkyDonkey.

Heres the standoff on the heat shields - just a tad under an inch tall. The headers have a collector Y and flange thats a cast piece and very beefy. My little plasma cutter struggled a bit maybe due to the old tip - but eventually got thru to pop off the flanges. These flanges have fairly large lips- like 3/4" per side - which will end up being the width of the frame clearance on each side.....with room for the stock brake line repositioning along the drivers side frame rail.

I marked both lower heat shields and trimmed them up to sit just above the frame on both sides. Then cleaned up the merged downpipes and ready to weld on some extensions/downtubes to get by the frame with the same 3/4" gaps on either side that the flange wasnt allowing. They should follow the same 60-70deg. angle and clear the swaybar frame mount fairly easily.

Technically they are LT1 and LT4 Camaro manifolds, we didn't even try with truck manifolds because they push the outlet to the back of the block and I was 99% sure it would hit the firewall or the frame.

ECM will be the stock E78 for the motor and T87 for the transmission with a stock truck wiring harness. I'll be using a Current Performance add in fuse block to power the L83 and intergrating it with the factory harness where it goes through the firewall.

Park nuetral and reverse will be a Dakota Digital box mounted to the side of the trans. Both of these are through the CANBUS on the donor truck and require the body control module that we aren't using.

yep- it seems NWF has doubled the capacity and added a fitting for an external cooler. Id probably err on the side of caution and run an external cooler simply to quadruple oil capacity since these are small and probably dont have much oil in them with the planetaries crammed in there to begin with. Its a bit of a catch-22 with these since making them so small doesnt leave much room for oil capacity.

In an ideal world- for the 8L90 - it would make sense to add the 3/4" of spacer space to the blackbox case itself and increase the volume that much more vs having a spacer.

This is so cool. You are doing exactly what I have been planning. How is the install going?

😂

I suppose you have a reason but I got to ask, why not pull the tires and front coils and set it down on the floor and bumps? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Sweet setup.

Cheers

Hit a bit of a corona virus snag. The motor is in and we were going back and forth on electric power steering or changing to an LSSimple front drive.
