Would anyone like to help interpret these patterns?

Not the worst I have ever seen, not an expert at all. IMHO the contact could move out a little towards the outer part of the tooth pic's 1 and 3. Also you should do both differential to pattern the same; again in my humble opinion.

Coast is good; drive needs to be farther out. If the coast moves half again as much to the outside when you center the drive side, leave it.

...and you're using too much paint. With that much on, you can't really see what's happening.

Put more load on the carrier so it will leave a good mark. What's your backlash?
Make sure to check it in three different spots on the ring gear.

You need more resistance so you can see a defined pattern. I'd be guessing where the contact currently is.

My backlash was .006, I had an oak handle pressed against the locker as I turned the pinion, pinion preload was 20 inch pounds. Just for some history the original setup was .017 inner pinion shim, this was a toyota marked shim. I am installing new: yukon 4.11 gear set, master install kit, and grizzly locker. I want to get this right.

Yes, I was thinking that, I will clean and reapply thinner next time I work on it.

I use a wrench on the ring gear bolts/nuts and a socket on the pinion nut. If I can I find someone to help turn one or the other is even better.

Is this going in the front or the rear axle?
