I hope to find out tomorrow about what is available. I know that OEM syncronizers, springs, and keys are still available. The problem is the small fortune that results from piece by piece purchasing vs the kit. Oh well.

Machine shop bored the worst cylinder today...and called saying that .040 over wasnt enough to remove the 20 plus years of curing that it went through with water trapped in it. Prob that way on two more cylinders too. Only option is to keep digging and sleeve it. There goes another $300-400. I said I was going to hear this beast run one day....I had no idea it would take all this! Gotta shave the top when they get done with that too so that it will be perfectly flat. This engine will be better than new.

I talks with shop today. The lock will be ready in two more days, tops. They only had to sleeve one hole. So, not as bad as I thought. I will be rounding up more parts soon. Anyone have a functioning distributor they want to part ways with? Mine has a dirt dobber nest where the cap used to be. I have a feeling the spark would not be too impressive. I packed up the carb today to go to carb junky's. I am hoping for good news from them. I will know something in about 3 weeks.

Also, bobm emailed today and said that the rockers and other goodies are on the way. We still have lots to do.

There's a dizzy in the 71, but it'd need to be gone through, I'm sure.

Have the OE in the 72, but it'll be some time before I can safely pull, since they're still driving it around the yard at the shop, occasionally.

My understanding is the non-US OEs are hard to beat, from a reliability standpoint, but any should be rebuilt/recurved based on the individual set up.

For that expense, could almost buy two knockoffs.....

Went by machine shop today... Everything will be picked up tomorrow. Here was the tab:
Bored .040 over
Remove and install new cam bearings, timing gears,
Mount pistons on rods,
Grind crank,
Sleeve one cylinder
Clean all parts that I took down there.
$580

I sent off my Aisin stock carb to carb junky's in Atlanta yesterday. $180 and they will ship it back to me like new, except for the plating. That will cost about $200 more. Not needed for my pig.

That's a great deal James. What machine shop did you use in Macon? I will need a head done soon.

Wheelers Machine Shop. third generation. They know what they are doing.

Today, We installed the fuel tank! and plumbed the lines to all of there respective places. Next in line is the spare tire carrier. It really does feel good seeing parts going back on the pig. It seems around every corner there is more work to be done. We worked on 2 doors this week, cutting good metal from the donor pig and welding it in on my 73 doors. I dont care what you guys think about it, but it is hot here in GA. I need my airflow, and the little vent windows on the front help with that!

Check the photos of the repaired areas. The curved areas are a pain.

After repairing these two, I took a closer look at the other two, and they have pretty bad cancer too. oh well.

Got some stuff from bobm. I will be getting into this in about 2 weeks. Got a lot of prep work to finish before we can get real serious about it.

At least at this point, we are putting stuff back on the pig instead of taking off:)
