My milage went down the same 16 to 12 with the ARB and 285 tyres.
I wounder what eats more gas, bigger tyres or the ARB?
Mi milage didn't change when I added the Sliders.

As Landtank gets GOOD milage with his 315 tyres, it might be the gearing that eats our gas.
I would remove the ARB and put on the bumper but I bet I would hit a FIB crossing the road at the Dells :flipoff2:

Bumpers and larger gas tanks shouldn't affect highway mileage very much. It's the stop and go where the weight has a huge impact. The tire size and gearing (and cruising RPM's) are really what drives the highway mileage.

And wind resistance. My roof rack (Garvin basket type) costs me 1 mpg on the hiway even when it's empty. I have tested that effect on three different occasions.

Figured up my mileage yesterday on my trip to be 13 mpg going between 70-80 mph....when I pulled my racks off (Yakima 78" bars) I went up to 14.3. Truck has 285's. Going to test it with the ARB soon.

12-13 around town - fair amount of sitting at lights. Got an all time high on the highway 1wk ago, 15.5 woohoo. This with ARB front winch bumper, 285s, OME heavy springs, TJM rear bumper. No roof rack and no rear wind deflector. Oh yeah, no seats except the front but carrying an FJ60 front and rear axle in the back for 1/2 the trip.

On a trip from San Fransisco to LA with a/c on full all the way got 16.1 mpg. I've now put on a Yakima Road Rage Warrior, somthing like that, and I think I lost 1 mpg. Around town about 12.

ARB winchless front bumper, stock tires, OME 2.5" lift...

Just got back from trip to the Rockies. Worst highway mileage was 14.63 MPG for a tankful of 87 octane going up the Blue Mountains in eastern Oregon headed to Boise. No huge passes, just long steady climbs in the wind going about 70-75 MPH.

Best mileage was 18.07 MPG on 88 octane (mid-grade at altitude) driving in to fishing spots around Bozeman. Almost always at around 65 MPH, mostly flat, windy roads, relatively low hills.

Average for the trip was 15.83 MPG. Not bad, considering all the hill climbing. Mileage seemed appreciably better when I stayed around 65 MPH. I used cruise control on the flat roads to keep it between 65 and 70, as traffic allowed, but I turned off the CC on the hills to avoid the constant jumps up to 3K RPM to hold speed up the hills.

In general, I use low-grade 87 octane high-quality gas (no Arco or no-name truck stop gas). In the mountains, the octane ratings drop, so I put in mid-grade gas to keep a relatively similar octane rating to make comparisons a little more valid.

Overall, I was pretty impressed with the mileage. Must be the Tornado! ;)

I'm still puzzled by this one time when we got gas near the Grand Canyon in some biggish town SE of the GC - forgot the name - and it gave amazing mileage, like 2 or 3 mpg more than usual. Don't remember the grade offhand. Maybe some ethanol thing?
Was with the 100.

Sounds like Flagstaff to me. I love that town... lived there for 6 ish years.

sounds right indeed.
Is there something special about the gas there, cuz of the altitude maybe?

12-13 in city driving 14-15 hwy (65-70). I get about 1 mpg better at higher altitudes (5000ft+). The 12-13 in city driving becomes 10-11 real quick if I get in a hurry or get stuck in a lot of stop & go traffic.

Running 315 MTRs, 4:56 gears, ARB w/winch, TJM rear w/ tire carrier, sliders, dual batts and drawers.

I am on a first name basis with the local Chevron dealer. Have to be careful though, I tend to spend way too much time chatting with him after I fill up.

My last fillup I ran 14.68 mpg - usually depends on the driving conditions for me.

On another note - A friend at my wifes work is looking at buying an 80 - She said this one dealer quoted her that this one 80 was getting 30mpg!!!

I laughed so hard when I heard this. I told her to go back and ask this salesman if he was serious. So she did! When the salesman was "called" on his fabricated mpg statisitic, he made up some BS excuse and finally said it got "around 15"!!!

Some of the city's and towns that do not require methonal / ethenoal will pump real gas. So I usually encounter this pick up in fuel milage also. So it might be nice when you fill up, look to see if it includes this additive. A past trip I got just over 17 mpg with my rig. It is nice to see how real fuel performs in a vechicle. later robbie

Good point, Robbie. However, the majority of gas stations here in the midwest (at least in KS) still pump only 100% gasoline. I usually see more of the ethanol blends when I travel to CO and Utah.

Just last week, I stopped driving my cruiser as my dd cause at the 1/2 way mark, I showed 90 miles. Outch. bad tank of gas maybe... I usualy avarage about 200-250 mpt fuel light on. I hit 300 once. highway.
the rest is combined, 75% freeway 25% city.

On my last road trip, I had 209 miles at the half tank mark coming down through eastern Washington, then I headed into the headwind of the Columbia Gorge. 209 for the first half tank, 77 in the last half until the light came on.
