Chapel Gate: what did it cost to recover your wheel in England? There is a small company in Florida USA which also does that style stitching. Cost about the same either way, ~ $400 US.

all in £170, i picked the wheel up because he lives down the road from me. he would have put a "handling charge" in there and postage from the wheel coverers, so i dont know the cost if i dealt with them direct.

as i said this is on a wheel exchange basis which is handy and one of the reasons why i went through him as my cruiser is a DD.

Kernal, I hope you don't mean Alan Gun in Florida. He is probably one of the worst people I have ever attempted to do business with. Total jerk - bad attitude from the start, sends the wrong items then says he doesn't take returns. There is quite a bit of bad experiences with him written up over at rennlist - he started with steering wheels for Porsches. I don't like I bad mouth anyone, but I also don't want anyone to get caught in the middle as I was.

Any update on the long-term wear of your wheel? I had mine re-done by Metric TLC, and after a couple years, it's starting to pill-up and the finish is not-so good anymore. Kind of a disappointment as the factory wheel lasted 225,000 miles and the refurbished wheel is failing after just 25,000 miles.

Anyone else have issues with the Metric TLC wheel holding up?

Bump ^

I've had one from Metric a couple years and its holding up great. I clean and condition it with lexol every once in awhile.

Same here: my Metric TLC wheel is holding up and looking great after 4 years. I dont clean/condition it as much as I should--maybe twice a year; maybe--and this is a daily driver, so it sees plenty of drive time. I have zero complaints, and it sure beats the weird slippery plastic-leather feel of the original.

Not to be a downer, I got mine done at Dallas too, but the OEM stitch is not the standard baseball stitch. I forgot to as for the off set stitch. As I recall Metric used the OE correct stitch.

One other thing, if you pitch up a used wheel try and get on with the cruiser control switch. Otherwise you have to drill out the rivet on your old one and re rivet to the new one. Suppose you could use a small bolt as well. Either way you have to reattach it.

Any other recommendations for high-quality wheel jobs? DCSW seems to mostly own the market. There's Metric TLC. Who else is out there?

Cruiser804: if you look at the photos I posted on page one of this thread the stitching DCSW used was the same as the OEM stitch pattern, which is what I requested.

Sent my steering wheel and shift knob off to Craft Customs in TX a couple of weeks ago almost...Fedex is visiting the house today with them both and can't wait to see them. No exchange program so truck has been in the driveway immobile for a little bit! OCD in me is going to want to take a day off to install instead of waiting until this weekend! Will post pics. IIRC to recover both with shipping was about $450.

Lousy phone pics on my workbench. Looks very nice!
