Sand hollow trip prep stuff.

I couldn’t find the right exhaust tube to extend the power steering resi. It seems like it puked a lot of fluid out during the trip but that could’ve been from me over filling it accidentally… a lot of stuff was rushed.

I painted the bumper in the dark ( I didn’t straighten it after the crash)

Due to the location of the tie rod on the high steer arms, I was only getting 5” out of my 8” ram so I had to make an internal spare. I made a little jig with a drill and “turned” down a 1.5”x 1/4” tube until it fit. That actually worked really well

I drilled/ tapped/ rebuilt the steering box which turned out to be a nightmare. The seal head that holds in the input shaft of the box had some screwed up threads so I had to fix it with the tiniest set of files I could find. The seals I had for the box turned out to be for the power steering pump so some seals were overnighted

A friend put tow bends in the drag link to flatten out the tie rod ends. At full droop it would bind the ends and I would get a single trip out of a set of tie rod ends before they got really loose

I welded in the bungs a little hot and ended up destroying the threads on the axle side…. So I ran the tie rod end in with a giant wrench and a pipe extension… I got a little over an inch of thread engagement which seemed to be fine

Lots of struggles because I’m cheap and stupid. Hints why I don’t have a psc resi.

I never felt like I needed a truss on the axle. The knuckle gussets Arcworxs seem to be doing the trick for me

Uuuhhhh what’s next. I got the lines made for the hydro assist. The field serviceable ends are kinda cool. I’ll probably end up rerouting the lines because they need to be clocked and a tiny bit longer. I talked to @Broski about which line went to which side of the ram and mines backwards to his for some reason… not sure why. But I had to leave for Utah the next day and I was tired of being covered in ATF so I just lived with it

Oh and the clamp is this rad knurled one from down to fab. It’s super cheap and didn’t seem to budge the whole trip. I’m stoked on it. It’s like a third of the price of everybody else.

I had to jump start the 80 since I’d only driven it once since the accident. While I was bleeding the steering, my 87 300ds started making making a crazy noise because starter got stuck on and exploded. So that was cool. I packed up the 80 that night and left for the 710 mile trip to St. George the next day

The drive down was pretty uneventful except I didn’t have the sway bar link in the right holes on the arm. Everytime I would hit a bump or get on or off the throttle it would steer the car. The combo of that and the crazy panhard angle in the rear was no bueno. I fixed it somewhere in Idaho and it was better for the rest of the drive down. I should get an eimkieth thingy for the panhard

@Broski 's ram is behind the axle yours is on the front... sooo if I'm not mistaken your left to right would be opposite. Or the ram it's self is flipped (extended vs collapsed)

I think you’re right.

Not sure where you tapped your box. But if it's in a similar spot, you can get a long 90 amd with a slight bend it will snake between the brake lines. Easy way to keep both on top of the frame.

And yes, your lines will be reversed due to the cylinder being on the front.

They are in the same orientation which means that mines extending when yours is retracting
And why the hose’s are opposite.

Sand hollow was fun. I was the second time that cars been there and it's a VERY different car.
We did our traditional double sammy night run and did the chute in the dark. Did a combo of wayne's world and the fallen the next day. My sway bar arm bent on Z turn... and I havent really taken the time to figure out why.

Next up was nasty half. this was a rad trail. Lots of v notches that look damn near impossible..... but you kind of just wedge your tire in and it climbs way better than you think. The first V notch went quickly for the group but the 2nd was was a bit tougher. Woody came by in his buggy and helped spot me up it and he took a rad picture. Thanks again! Can somebody tag him? I dont know what is name on mud is... which is kinda funny.
The birfs were clicking like galloping horses from all of the pressure, the rear steer was pushing the rear end off of the line, I realized that my sliders are to damn wide and kept kicking me off of the line. I almost rolled the truck once or twice and floated the rear tire 4 feet in the air.... but we made it up somehow . I totally bypassed the last obstacle though. It was a v notch with two humps and I'm pretty sure I would've wiped out the whole side of the truck if I tried it.

At some point in time on this trip we did another trail... but I have no idea what it was called. But I remember that I bent my other sway bar arm, ripped the resi for the coilover out of its mount and shoved it into the radiator fan... I should figure out why the rod ends keep running out of travel . I ended up just taking the end link off of one side of the sway bar and ran the rest of the trails with essentially no front bar. Oh yeah and we got hit with a sand storm.

We did a quick run one evening so a friend could try the chute again, and while that was happening I tried the aftershoot. The rad wheel lift was my favorite picuture from the trip! We ended up starting another trail, no idea what it was called, and I ended up trying middle monkey and got super duper denied. Once again, the sliders were to wide and my car was way to damn bit.

Oh yeah! At some point in time I got to ride around the west rim trail in a friends ultra4 car. It redefined what I thought a car could do. My car is now not cool again
