The “abyss” program is a web server not a browser. You are setting up a website on your PC essentially when running abyss. You should be running abyss pointed at the downloaded and mounted iso file. Then you access the data by navigating to localhost (or your IP if you know it) with a browser. I dont believe every option in the main menu is available. I believe only the USA options were scraped from TIS, but I could be wrong on that.

I understand, i mounted the Iso file, and set abyss settings connected to the disk letter where it's downloaded to.
I have a 1vd, diesel, i cant find it anywhere.

I have it half apart in the garage. Few things and 2 Turbo's etc so not there yet but I realy want the file worling before i continue with the heads, chain cover and lower part.

The diesel options were not available in the USA, so they may not be in the ISO. I’ll let someone else speak to that. It sounds like you have it working, so if the links don’t go anywhere, then they most likely were not scraped from TIS.

There used to be an fsm posted/hosted in russia. I think it is likely currently not available, I’ll go look for the link for potential future users. It’s on mud somewhere.

Merry New Year! It's beef jerky time...

With some much appreciated financial contributions from @greynolds, @grinchy, @CharlieS, @bloc, @Dunbar, @i4c4lo, @bemerritt, @clearmysix, and especially @Leelanau, I've been able to get a new TIS subscription and do an FSM update this holiday season. The updated FSM includes all US docs through 2021, as well as non-US models through ~2015. Specifically:
  • 200-series LC/LX US models 2008 through 2021, and non-US (EMEA, GCC, AUS) from ~2007-2015
  • All 100-series LC models (US and non-US) and all US LX models 1998-2007
  • All 80-series USA LC/LX models 1991-1997
  • Official USA FJ62 1990 docs
  • All the unofficial and semi-official PDF docs for the 40-series and 60-series that I know of that are floating out there.
As with the old version that many of you have, the new one includes both the online web-browsable docs as well as some massive PDF files with the same data. And just like the last version, I generally recommend using the web-browsable version whenever possible - the PDF files are thousands of pages and not indexed, but I suggest saving a copy of the PDFs to your phone or tablet so that if you break down on a trail and don't have internet service you can still view them and do text searches.

To get the updated FSM, this time I'm going to ask everyone in the mud community to help provide it. I've made the FSM available as a .torrent file, which will allow people to download from the pool of available members, and will allow anyone who downloads to help the rest of the community by optionally being part of the pool of members providing copies to others.

To get started, just add the following link to any bittorrent client. If you don't have a bittorrent client, I recommend using Transmission as it's free, light weight, and doesn't include any spyware.

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:cf1ba674b5796aade66d13a51e7f4c56b8fb9195&dn=TheCompleteTLCFSM2021.iso&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A6969&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.opentrackr.org%3A1337%2Fannounce

Once you've downloaded if you want to help "seed" the pool for other downloaders, just leave your client running in the background. Transmission has some nice features so you can limit the number of clients and the upload speed or available time windows (in case you want to minimize the impact during the day but let people download at full speed while you're asleep). Just remember to make sure you select "Seed Forever" in the settings, otherwise you'll stop helping the community once two people have downloaded it from you.

Once you have downloaded the FSM .ISO file, you will need to set up a local web server in order to make the docs viewable. (Don't bother trying to just browse the ISO file, the website using Javascript and won't work locally in most modern browsers due to their security features). For most people I recommend using the Abyss webserver to do this. You can follow the instructions posted here:

Finally, since the 200-series is complete, this will likely be the last FSM update that I do. If you want an FSM for your future LX 600, GX, 4Runner, Tacoma, Supra, etc what I've done is posted the source code used to download and create the FSM, along with some rough instructions on how to do so in the following link. Feel free to use this to build your own custom FSM with any Toyota/Lexus/Scion vehicle you'd like.

Hello LinuxGod,

Can you clarify for me if the 1vd-ftv engine is somewhere attached also?
You mentioned Australia, they have the 1vd-ftv as well as the 3UR, i hope the diesel is in the ISO also, i hope to receive a reply from you please.
Many thanks in advance :)

Diesel is in one of the Sections in the iso. There is an Australian set of docs which runs through 2014 or 2015, so if your truck is newer it should be close but might not be perfect. I don’t have Australian doc access so I had to rely on someone else with access there to compile those docs

The iso does have the diesel but you have to go into the GSIC section for Australia. TIS is a US service.

Depends on your model year but you want one of the GSIC links on this page.

Thanks for the reply! i found this exact scedule yesterday and seen 1vd-ftv on 2014 :D so i opened GSIC and i scrolled crazy but could not yet find it. :( Did find a lot of other engines. Can you perhaps tell me the page number?
Did not searched further today, continued with engine take down, curious to know if its only a crankshaft/rod bearring or also piston.
Hope to find out tomorrow :)

You can subscribe to techstream independently. I believe you can get 1 day, 1 week, etc subscriptions. Since you're rebuilding an engine maybe this would be the way to guarantee you can get the resources you need to be successful.

Thanks for your reply, i previously did so for something else and another car, however, when its not necessary and/or possible to get it from the help here, that would be my first aim. The rebuild and all cost me an arm, a leg and my left kidney allready 🙈

Found something:)

Linuxgod, your the best!
Your upload with the FSM made all the difference!

I started taking the engine out and apart to save as much as possible on labor, made lots of pictures but with when i got my hands on a new short block assambly, with this fsm it was super easy putting it al back together 😀

I Appreciate it a lot, all the credits may go towards your direction :)

And I point everybody towards your direction in the youtube video of the rebuild also

My guess is, more people will appreciate your fsm and perhaps in this video I help convince people to rebuild the engine themselves also! 😀

Great to hear!

I'm not brave enough to rebuild my 3UR even with the FSM, though I did rebuild a Ford 302 in my '66 Mustang in my parents driveway almost 30 years ago.

Yes, an update is the least i can do ;)

And i'm not as good as you with fixing manuals for others, so we all have our specialty in this world and with that we can help one and another 😀 Cheers!

Many thanks Geoff for updating the ISO and detailed instructions!

I was able to get this working last night on a Windows 11 OS using Abyss and the provided configuration steps.

For kicks, I attempted to do the same on my new MacBook Pro w M1 Max CPU (Apple silicon). FWIW - It can't run VMware Fusion at this time.

Using a new Mac OS (12.3.1) and HW, Abyss installed fine. Used the following config:

Placed ISO in it's own directory and then mounted, specifying in documents path:

Removed all IP ranges except local.

Added jsp extension under MIME types.

Restart Abyss web server and good to go. Really fast too.
