Anyone try to get front mudflaps from a Prado 120 to throw on their GX? I really liked the look and extra rock protection I got from removing running boards on my 80 and adding front mudflaps. Thinking of doing the same on my GX.

Looks good! Do it and see if it works!

Robert- Are you talking about the plastic clips that hold the fender on? I just removed my running boards and was wondering what everyone else did to theirs, may just spray them semi gloss black and call it a day.

Hmm I think I like those. It looks like it would also solve the bare spot problem you have after you remove running boards. You should be our Guinea pig!!

If I can find a way to get the pieces I need here in the US for a reasonable price I may give it a try.

I ordered the Prado 120 mud flaps, but they will not fit a GX470. I even tried trimming and modifying the Prado flaps, but still would not fit. I believe the model numbers for the set I ordered was 7660360110F0 and 7660460110F0.

The body panel is the same, but the plastic is a different shape, so I don't think they would work. Very very close though. I was thinking of something else, but the liner protects from rocks, and the wider tires throws mud everywhere now. I would have to do fiberglass fenders like SSS if I wanted to protect from debris, which I might do once I get the long travel done.

Thanks guys. Glad to know before I wasted any $. Stuck with sliders and trimming the plastic then, which looks pretty good.

The long explanation of the issue, is that the running board assembly on a Prado 120 appears to be 3 separate parts instead of the one integrated part on the GX470. The Prado front mudflap attaches at the bottom to one of these parts, which is not included on the GX. The top part of the mud flap actually attaches to the truck an inch or so higher than where the GX running board assembly mounts. I started cutting the Prado mud flaps and formulating a strategy (i.e., drinking beer and pondering) on how to attach it to the GX, when I realized (after about 4 beers) that it would be a better fit and easier to just cut the mud flap and sill panel out of my GX470 running boards. I was never planning on using those again or selling them anyways. Attached are pictures of the final result.

I tried taking some pictures without good results. Maybe the attached pictures will show you what you're looking for. Attached are pictures of the modified GX mud flap and sill panel (for lack of a better word) minus the running board which I cut out with a Dremel. The mud flap was also trimmed with a Dremel after trial and error. If not trimmed, the tires would catch on the flaps during turns.

Bumping this. When I did this mod I didn't keep the whole length of the "sil panel" in the two pictures above, rather just the first 6" or so to fasten with 1 of the silver plastic fasteners. As a result, without the entire length of the sil panel running to close up the seal between the door panel and body, I get a ton of mud and debris kicked up and stuck inside the door panels. It doesn't make it inside the truck but it really gets inside the door jams. I am looking at getting cheap universal mud flaps to try and reduce the amount of stuff that gets thrown up. Does anyone have a good cheap rubber front mud flap they've used?

Taking a closer look underneath, now I'm afraid I've messed up by only keeping the first little bit of the top 1" of the running boards. Now I realize that top 1" helped seal up the bottom of the door. Those of you who've removed your running boards and did not keep any part to cover ups the white front clips did you keep the top 1"? The photos show what I am referring to. I guess I could get a strip of rubber and fasten to the old mounting holes. Or it may be ok. I am not sure.

Ok thanks, I guess that's how it will be without the boards to keep it from slinging. Sliders would help too

I need to find some running boards to seal up those rockers and doors. One winter here in the rust belt and it will be game over. I was considering plugging the holes and Monsterlining the rocker but those door seals look critical. If anyone pulls their boards and wants to dispose of them in trade for beer let me know. Willing to drive within a days mileage from MI or if you are in the CO frontrange I have friends that can grab them.

What does this look like from underneath? Does it still throw up mud into the gap where the running boards were or is the sill panel providing a solid seal?

Weather Tech makes some digital mud flaps for some vehicles but not for the GX. I wrote them requesting mud flaps explaining that the GX off road oriented owner often pulls off the side steps. I have not heard back from them.

Weather Tech also stopped making the digital fit floor mats for the 80 series until we, on the 80 Mud forum, put together a coalition request for Weather Tech to remake the mats...AND they did! Perhaps, GX 120 Mudders could make a request that Weather Tech design a front mud flap for us. It never hurts to ask!
