I really think this young lady would be safer in Elmo...

Oh, BTW, I punked out on that boulder crawl in my stock 2000 Taco. I made a 3-point turn on that ledge... tail in the air!

So who brought the Rover? You'd think he would have realized he was in for a long day after seeing the rest of the rigs.:hillbilly:

some Colorado granddad with kid grandkid (on this trip, they hailed from San Diego, where granddad has a second home) - they chatted up Michael at the air-down spot - was even asking whether there was a service charge "for the leader"

they had the time of their lives - never been offroad before, as we found out later

they had no idea there was excellent wheeling close to San Diego, too - did they never look at a map

Actually it was a short day for them, a very nice grandfather and his eager 16 year old grandson. First time 4 wheelers! It was all bumpy:bounce:, but the only tough part of the trail was the uphill to get on top of the mesa, which is where they sliced a tire. Very predictable! We all said it was a bad idea to try it with those tires. And of course, we have experience as our teacher. They didn't. They had the invincible Range Rover. We have all seen the commercials. Once the tire was replaced, they slowly made it to the top they should have parked it there and rode along with us to the overlook. There were plenty of seats available. But they turned back without us. Second unadvised move. What if they had sliced another tire on the way down, without any help and no CB? No one else had a matching spare. We might have all been stuck up there on that bumpy mesa for a while. :hhmm:

Its a good thing that life's experience is such a good teacher. I know I've learned a lot by paying attention to what the more experienced wheelers have to say. But the lessons that have left the biggest impression are the ones that cost me time, money, blood, sweat and tears. :bang:

Claudia,
Congratulations on achieving the 5000 Posts Club!!!

You are a Poster Child for posters.:D

"If" she were my passenger dressed like that... I would go back tomorrow!!! :hillbilly:

We ended up having a young kid and his Grandfather tag along with us. I, among others suggested they not try to come up the hill because of the inadequate tires on the Land Rover.

Kevin was coming up the hill and as I was taking his picture I hear "PFSSST!!!" You can see the Land Rover just behind Kevin's rig

We helped back the vehicle to a "more level" ground and block the tires. The sidewall (the little bit there) blew out

Kevin is explaining to the young guy the ABC's of wheeling and proper equipment

It ended up that "we" changed their tire and the Grandfather got away without providing contact information because he offered a place to stay "if we are ever in San Diego". Melissa and I go there often for fun! :D
