bump?

I would be interested in a little more info on 14 bolt mod as well. I busted two stock 60 short side rear axle shafts in the past month so I want to go bigger.

I think my rear axle tube is bent but replacing that still leaves me with a stock 60 rear axle. I am running 37's now but I am thinking of going to 4d's next.

Im pretty good at busting long side shafts, but this was my first short side and it was a poly so I took it as a sign to upgrade.

Sorry for the delayed response. Been a bit crazy lately and haven't been on in a while.

For the 14 Bolt I found that the long side (passenger) shaft on a factory axle is right about 6" longer than the factory short side (driver). For the housing to be offset and re-use the factory shafts, the long side now has to accommodate a shaft that is 6" shorter and the short side now has to accommodate a shaft that is 6" longer.
For my setup I measured 4" back from the back of the backing plate flange on the short side and 10" from the flange on the long side. Swap the tubes side to side and the shafts will swap over no problem.

Ah perfect!

I thought it was what you did but i started over thinking it and confused myself.

This is a great thread, amazing work. I love what you did with the 14 bolt and may do something similar with my truck someday.

I have a question though, when you cut and sleeved the axle tubes, what size was the tubing you used? I know it was 6" long, and being that the 14 bolt is 3.375" with .5" thick walls, did you have the sleeves machined down to 2.370 OD or so for a nice fit? What was the ID of the sleeves?

Thanks for the info.

Current update...........absolutely nothing. It's been sitting on the trailer on the side of the house since I got off Dusy last August. You'd think working at an offroad shop I'd wheel a bit more frequently.

At any rate I've got our shop run coming up in a month at the Rubicon. I've got just a few small things to work on and then back on the trail. Still hoping to get my wife and kids out for a camping trip sometime this season if life would just slow down a bit.

Love this thread man!!! Keep it going...

Hi all and Fred if you are still monitoring this thread.
Concerning the adaptor in the attached image. I need the H42 bolt pattern and any CNC or CAD information if it is available, and i'm happy to pay as well.
I intend doing a similar conversion but with a H55f bell housing to an H150 gearbox.
I believe that the H42 and H55 share the same hellhousing pattern????

If any similar information is available for the H150 bolt pattern then I'm happy to pay for that as well.

Sorry @Gengis this adapter was hand made and there were no drawings. Marlin made some notes in his book but nothing substantial. I have the adapter now and there are some things in the works but as with all my projects the ones that pay my bills faster take first priority.

So I know this thread is a little old and freds40 hasnt been on lately but he mentioned after widening the front axles his wms to wms was 63" then he mentioned he still had spacers on it. The way it looks when he's driving is it 63" with spacer and a 4 inch backspacing on the rims or 63 inches with spacers and 4 inch backspacing on the rims? Just curious cause I'm widening my front and rear axle soon. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That I don't know, I would have to go back through the thread. Freds40 is no longer in 4wd last I heard, he has a hot rod now.

Ok thank you. In the thread he said he widened the front and welded the tube on there but I read over it all twice but couldnt find a measurement. I'm building a land cruiser 9.5 from ruff stuff for the rear and front and wanted it wider but I'm not sure how wide I wanna go. Thank you for the information!
