That latest Jensen looks pretty cool. I notice on the Crutchfield General Features page it says this:
"
  • preset and audio settings memory when disconnected from power source

"

Which leads me to my newbie FJ60 question: So is there not a wiring harness adapter available for an '85 FJ60? Will I have to cut the plugs off the factory harness and do some soldering? Will I need to run a wire to a constant power source to keep memory on most radios, but maybe not this Jensen?

Crutchfield has no installation gear available for the 60

Then yes, you'll need to either patch into the factory harness, or my recommendation is to run all your own new wiring. The factory harness is likely under sized for a modern head unit and speakers. This way you can run power directly from the battery. I used a Painless fusebox that has an ignition triggered relay built-in to enable power to some of the output circuits.

Found this thread while doing research on a new unit. Like many others, I wanted a head unit with modern features, but not a flashy modern looking unit. Like my son said "dad, they all look the same". I really want to run my stock Toyota radio, but it lacks the quality sound and connectivity features I was in the market for. I thought about keeping stock and going with a Tuffy setup, but I really want the accessibility of it being dash mounted, plus I prefer the look of a stock console over a Tuffy. This Jensen Heavy duty seems to fit the bill perfect! I just ordered one. I got the Model #JHD1635BTB. It does not have a CD player, but I can't remember the last time I listened to a CD. It has bluetooth and front and rear USB ports. That is what sold me on this particular one. I can run my IPOD cable from the rear directly into the glovebox and have no wires hanging out!
Or I can stream pandora via bluetooth. I also REALLY like the weather radio feature! It's seems like a Win Win!
It was a hard sale though. Growing up in the 80's & 90's I was quite a bit if a car audiophile. Bumping subs and high dollar head units, amps, and EQ's were all the rage and I had em' all. Alpine, Kicker, Pioneer.... All the big names. Jensen was the last name on the list that anyone would be caught dead with. Let's face it, it was a K-mart blue light special. But all the reviews seem legit, seems like Jensen has a high quality product now with this Heavy Duty line incorporating all the latest features. Seems like the other big name have fallen off on quality while gaining flashy unused features. I've had several units fail on me over the years, the last being the Sony that was in the cruiser. It only lasted a little over a year and the whole right channel went out. I'm pretty excited about this Jensen. Let's see how it does.

Let us know what you think and post a pic of it once it is installed.

And yes, the ipod in the glovebox getting powered and supplying tunes is a beautiful thing - my own private radio station... I run a 160gb Classic on all songs shuffle. With almost my entire music collection on it I get some pretty interesting segues sometimes... Led Zeppelin into Keith Jarrett into Young MC...

Same here. I can't stand radio. Love my iPod. Always on.

Let us know how long it takes for the Bluetooth to connect to your phone. I have one of the original JVC KD units which is great, not flashy and has sub front and rear and Bluetooth. However the Bluetooth is a dongle that has to go into one of the use plugs and it takes 30seconds to a full minute to connect. While not a deal breaker I wish it was like our 4runners stock unit that literally connects as soon as the car is on.

Do you
I like it. Totally different from but similar in creativity to my kill "EJECT" button EDIC replacement.

I also bypassed the starter glow system with a push button glow system, so to be replaced with a 2nd OEM rear window defrost switch running my glow. Getting tired of holding in that button for 20 seconds. Like I said I have a transfercase from my 60, with the 2-lo mod.
Do you have a link to your EDIC button?

Does some one know the difference between what WHG423 purchased and JCV1640BTB other than its way cheaper?

Look at their website.

Stereos - Products

You can compare there. Not a lot of difference other than the rear USB which was important to me.

I got a much better price on EBay.

I had the CD version of that Jensen on my old Harley. you couldn't make a cd skip, it lasted threw thunder storms, ice, car wash, and the insane vibrations of my Harley. great power output. another benefit, If you are playing a CD, and there is a weather emergency it will automatically cut over to the weather band. highly recomend it

Almost forgot I sub'd to this thread. Coincidentally my Sony flip face unit has been failing lately....never liked it much anyway, pain in the ass to use and I don't understand half the settings anyway.

Think I'm gonna pull the trigger on this one tonight, the CD version(just to have that option)...Crutchfield has it. Hopefully my old Sirius XM antennae receiver thingy will still work.

I had gotten the model number from crutchfields, and I bought it from eBay or amazon, been a few years, but saved about 100 bucks. same radio new in box. I do believe it is overkill for our rigs. Iv sprayed mine with the car wash wand directly, still worked, took a few hours for the display to dry out and work again. iv had it covered with frost. iv ejected a wet CD's wiped it off stuck it back in and it plays. Only radio id recommend for a motorcycle or ATV.

Mine came in the mail yesterday. I got around to installing this evening.
My first impressions are... I love it already!
The look is perfect. It fits the classic, rugged look of the 60 interior quite well.
Sound is nice, Rear USB is just what I wanted. It pulls audio as well as charges!
Ipod controls are straight forward and easy to use. Bluetooth paired right up and
streams my Pandora as wished for. I even had my son call me and it took the call
as advertised. Looking forward to giving it some road time and see how I like it over
time, but I do not think I am going to be disappointed! Took a couple of pics, but it was
in the garage and lighting sucks. I will snap some outside later.
