I was NEVER able to keep my system running with 30 or even 40 AMP fuses until I switched to a fan controller. I like the DCC setups LINK I have not had a single issue since I stated using them 8+ years ago.

Hey guys,

What is the amps draw on the fans. Is it 30 amps for both when running or 30 amps per fan when running???

I'm not 100%, but it might be 30A per fan. And I want to saw an 80A surge on spin-up. The DCC controllers gradually step up the voltage to the fan(s) based on the signal from the thermistor, so they basically eliminate the high current surge on startup.

Awesome write up, do you know the cfm of the contour fans? I'm using a taurus sho fan on mine and it seems to be happy on the low speed setting but when it kicked into high speed it keeps popping the fuse, I think my motor is bad but have not had time to dig into it.......
Thanks for the info........

How did I miss this thread?

CFM ratings (sqishy numbers it seems) from some ford forums:

I used a flex-a-lite fan controller to wire up mine, with the thermoprobe stuck into the radiator right by the inlet. The flex-a-lite only has provision for one fan, but I wired the two up together and haven't had any issues. Has been working perfectly for over two years, both with the 2F, and now my 4BT. The V6 Contour fan fits like it was made to!

I bought the fan assembly with Bosch fans new from RockAuto, and then found a company that makes pigtails that plug into the fans. Soldered together the harness and tied it up to the controller. Fans and everything weren't that expensive, maybe $300 total with wire, soldering materials, bracket materials and hardware.

any updates on the fans?? they working good?? hows the dcc holding up??
Still working good as new. I need to replace a couple of leaking hoses but then I'll add a bottle of Water Wetter again to my cooling system and it'll be in great shape.

I'll play .. special thanks to Johnny who provide most if not all info necessary to make this happen painless ..

10k cfm on an LS1 fan? How is that measured? That's about what a 4' drum fan pushes!

you can or could buy the brand new motor craft or whatever the FORD parts reference is...off the Rock Auto web site, you can or could buy the wiring pigtails from the same web site that feed the fan motors. When I was experimenting with the dual fan from the ford contour....rock auto carried the parts noted. SPAL makes some nice heavy duty relay wiring harnesses. I think a electrical fan controller would be the way to go, but not sure whats on the market at present time...do not buy the SPAL fan controller, or at least I would not use it.

I believe the better choice is to stick with a fan clutch and matching OEM fan and fan shroud, as I have had better cooling with the GM fan clutch and matching fan on my v8 swap. I know on some engine swaps and some modifications a electrical cooling fan is a viable or may be the only choice due to space or configuration issues.

I read on the flex-a-lite web site that, they recommend that you don't run a 4 core radiator with electrical fans.....just passing that along, can't say good or bad. This was some time ago, so I don't know if the reference is still on the web site or not.

That doesn't make much sense IMO. Any idea why that was?

the science behind that line is ... with a 4 core rad the air needs to go through much more " area " and therefore and electric fan might not be up to the task ..

as i recall "they" said something to the effect that a 4 core radiator was thicker and a electric fan did not perform as well on a 4core vs 3 with respect to pulling air through the core.

4 Years later it looks like my Fan setup bite the dust .. ( or the water )

So at this point I want to know how this setup it's working for you guys ..?

I'm debating if I would replace with the same dorman setup of go with something like spal fans ..

Any other electric option using out there .?

My contour fans are still working as well as the day I installed them.

Did you switch the fans off before going through that water crossing? Which brand motors did you have?

Yup they were off .. and have no idea of the brand but are black .. I could check on them tho .. Could just the motor be replaced ? that would be great .. ! ( and keep a spares )

look on rock auto...I'm fairly sure the fan motors are replaceable.... or you can buy a motor craft fan assembly for not crazy money...

I don't see the motor craft product offered anymore but the full setup fan assemblies are there and I suspect you can find the fan motors too.
