Hello again,
So I may scrap the 5speed idea. I have an fj62 automatic that runs great and has zero rust on the body but 240K miles. A guy drove in from California and sold it to me. How hard is it to take out the automatic and put in a 5speed manual? I have a 6.2 diesel Chevy with a turbo I want to put in it. If I could find a L/C with a good body and a four speed I would use it and put in a Ranger Overdrive but so far no bananas.

Carlos I am on the same boat, for a long time I looked for a 60 or 62 to do a diesel swap but found a FJ55 and that is what I went with. I would personally remove the engine and transmission and you can get some money from these. I would reuse the transfer case. The pedal and other relevant assemblies will bolt into a FJ62 out of a FJ60. I would use your 6.2 and probably an Advance Adapters bellhousing kit (less than $400 I beleive) to a NV4500 5 speed. Then a AA kit that will let you reuse your OEM transfercase. The hole is slightly off where the shifter is. I would patch this with some steel and make sure it's well sealed especially from the bottom of course. then buy the right colored/appropirate carpet from a FJ60 where (again) it has the shifter in the right location in the transmission hump. And that would do it. I would definetely get an OEM wiring diagranm for the FJ62. It is relatively simple but there is a non-start relay from the automatic transmission (designed to not let you start unless it is N or P) and some other quirky things probably under the hood. I have this exact same idea with a Cummins 4BT or an ISB 3.9 (electronic version of the Cummins). Depending on desired tire size, you may have to switch to 3.73 differentials but these are all over the place cheap out of FJ60's and you 4.10 differentials are worth something. You will want to keep your RPM's around 2300 at top speed (figure for about 90 MPH). There is a great RPM calculator at TLCA.org. The NV4500 is about $1000-$1800 depending on wheer you get it from and new or used or rebuilt. I got a rebuilt one in Salt Lake City with a 2 year warantee for $1200 that is donig great. You will love your diesel cruiser regardless of what engine you end up with....

Enjoy...

Do you still have this? Can you please take some pics of the inside, rear area, dash, etc, and pics from underneath, frame, axles, etc. (e-mail them to me if you don't want to, or can't post them, mabrodis@colorado4x4.net)

What FJ parts are you looking for?

Thanks,
Mark Brodis
