'63 FJ40 in Deep South

I am posting to see if there is any interest in my '63 FJ-40 down here. My wife and I just recently moved down from Montana to New Orleans. So far as I have seen there are not very many cruisers down here, so I don't know how hard it is going to be to sell my FJ. I have a '63 (with the centered rear differential) that has been my project for the last 2.5 years. I have used it down here as my daily driver logging about 400 miles on the chevy 350. The motor was built from the block up by me and a professional mechanic friend of mine. All parts on it are new, there was nothing scavenged for the project. We installed a SM465 and NP205 behind the motor. Both of these units were pulled from donor trucks, stripped down, rebuilt and replaced. All the brakes are new, lines, drums, pads, etc. (I did not get to a disc brake conversion). I rewired the vehicle with a painless wiring kit (it looks like a professional job). The stock gas tank was taken out, cleaned, and resealed. I have replaced all the lights and turn signals with units from CCOT. The gauges were replaced with VDO gauges. Everything mechanical and electrical on this vehicle is new and I have all receipts for all the parts. The body has no rust, but only because the bad spots (rear corners, door threshholds) were cut out and new steel was welded in. These spots have been covered with black diamond tread (corners, under door, threshholds). The interior of the tub has been herculined. The body is by no means show quality, it has some dents and HAD some rust, but it is solid and not going to rust off the frame. The tub has been freshly painted with PPG Silver paint. ( I have enough paint, hardener etc. to repaint the whole vehicle again, that I will throw in with the truck if someone wants it). Other stuff of mention: 2" lift from CCOT, off-road lights, custom-built front and rear bumpers, diamond tread steps, new bestop bikini top. The truck has an old set of white rockcrawler rims and 31" swampers with 30% tread left on them. I had been saving for new tires and rims, just hadn't gotten them.

I am selling the cruiser because my wife and I are expecting our first child Feb. 26th and I have 2 other projects in the garage. This one is the closest to complete, and something had to go. Anyway, I am not interested in unloading a piece of junk onto some unknowing soul, just trying to sell a great truck. I have not set a price yet, so I will entertain offers. If anyone is interested and wants more information or pictures, please email me at robrachel_nola@yahoo.com.

Thanks,
Robert

1997 LX450 with lockers

I hate to sell a great vehicle, but I just don't use it for off off-roading or towing, so I need to let it go:

Only 88,000 miles
has front/rear lockers
black with tan leather
cd changer, sunroof, etc
3rd row seat

*I got a MIL indicating low EGR gas flow. The part is on its way and should be replaced this week.

Other than that, it is in great mechanical condition.

Also, I am in the middle of a speaker replacement. I have one installed, three more need installation. They are Eclipse 6.5" speakers.

The paint is pretty good for 8 years old. It has that "looks awsome from 10 feet away", but you'll find small scratches if you get up close. No dings or dents. Carfax came up clean when I bought it (a year ago) and I have had no accidents with it,

I am located in Austin, TX

I'll try to get some pics up in the next day

asking $15,300

You're likely to be a popular guy the next couple of weeks. Look forward to seeing the pics.

$3900? Who paid that? :D

Seriously, FJ25's are probably the only vehicle where rarity does not translate into higher values.

Nice rig, but IMHO most 80 owners like them and wouldn't want to trade for a 40 read: less comfy. Anyhow you are probably better off just selling it on ebay or the autotrader and using the cash to find an 80.
Good luck
Dan

True....before i go throughing it one ebay i need to decide if i want to put the stock carb back on it. running a weber right now, just not sure if going back to stock will help sell it at all.

Dude...

You know the chances of scoring like that on here are slim. Take it to your local Toyota dealer, you'd be better off running in there and trading it on an 80.

I've driven past our Toyota dealer in the past and noticed how the sales guys like to Rubber Neck at the old Cruisers. You might be able to work something out.

A deler offered a killer dear on a 100 if my dad would trade in the 40. I dont remember numbers, but it was well over the cost of the 40. Try it at the deler, might get lucky

haha i got a real quick response from the dealer....they said it might be possible but they have a hard enough time getting their hands on 80's in this area, the owner however did say he'd like to see it though.
