Out of Context - 1987 BMW 635CSi

Well, after wrecking my LC, I bought this zippy ride, but I am now finding myself missing the LC much more than I thought I would.

Anyway, it's a 1987 BMW 635CSi. It has a bit of rust, but it is mechanically sound. It runs and drives like a dream. The PO told me that it is the Euro spec car, which means that it has around 220 hp in 1987. This thing still has alot of get-up and go however.

My personal mileage best on the highway was 21 mpg averaging a true 75 mph. City is estimated around 17 or 19 depending on your driving.

The Bad;

A bit of driver's quarter rust and rear wheel well rust
PPO was rear-ended however fixed
Dent behind driver's door in panel; easily pulled out
Malfunctioning tachometer
One fog light took a hit from a rock
Needs one new tire

The Good;

Drives extremely well
220 hp
New brakes
Various new engine parts such as fuel pump, intake manifold and sensors
Good e-brake
Five speed
Central locking system
Sunroof with wind deflector
Power windows and locks
Heat and AC (both working)
Power/memory seats

This is an awesome driving car. I love it, however, I love my LC more.

Reach me at my email johnnyc300@gmail.com.

Price is $2000, located in zip code 12309 which is Schenectady, NY.

Does he still have the 80? and where in Rolla is it located? I would like to stop by and look at it if it is still there.

Looking for a LC diesel Wagon- 5 speed. here is the story...

Hi,
So... technically I don't believe I can call myself a big cruiser head. In fact I have never had one. I work as a performing artist doing stunts in shows and circus acrobatics (trapeze, acro-balance, other aerials, and comedy.) so my work takes me all over the world regularly (mostly in canada and the states)..

I am currently driving an 87 isuzu trooper turbo diesel that I bought 4 years ago with a blown crank for cheap and fixed it up.. It runs like a dream, gets up to 34mpg (at very best), goes pretty much anywhere, and has been the most mechanically reliable vehicle that I have ever owned..
I put over 40,000 miles on it since I got it without ever skipping a beat..

my issue is that I need something a little bigger and more powerful as I often find myself needing the extra space and at least a little bit of towing capacity when necessary.

In addition to driving all over the place for work I really like to go to fun places that are hard to get to (hotsprings, mountains, undiscovered mexican beaches..) hence the need for the 4WD.. I had a lifted ford diesel 4X4 for a bit as a work truck in washington, but was constantly getting it stuck.. unlike the unstoppable trooper ( Its not even lifted and I only got it stuck once in quicksand)..

Once I decided to upgrade beyond the trooper I looked around a bunch talked to a bunch of friends and people online, and finally concluded that a diesel 80's Bj60 would be the perfect vehicle for what I need.. super reliable toyota engineering, solid 4WD, a bit bigger, diesel fuel economy, and the capacity to tow when needed..

I would ideally like a 5 speed because I do a lot of long distance highway driving as well (example: next month I go from mexico to washington, then vermont, then texas, then BC.) .. . diesel is a must.. this is all that I have been using for 5 years and wouldn't want to do without the diesel reliability..

I am looking for a vehicle that I can pretty easily fix up a bit to be in perfect condition (mechanically, and minimal rust... I am not worried about paint and overall cosmetics) and I plan to keep it as my long term daily driver..

So.. If you have read all this and have a diesel wagon for sale or know of any good deals for me you will forever be a legend in my book.. I am not rich but am willing to pay for a good deal.. I also have the fore-mentioned 87 isuzu trooper 2 turbo diesel I can use in trade..

you can email me at islando @ mac.com (without the spaces..) Thanks for your time!

The BJ60 probably has the lowest power to weight ratio of any vehicle ever built including a VW bus. If you are looking for reliable, affordable, capable transport the BJ60 is really good. A tow rig it's not.

Now an HJ61 is another story altogether.

You wouldn't be visiting Elsie and Serenity (Gemini Trapeze/Nimble Arts) in Vermont, would you?

Good luck in your vehicle search and welcome to the board! :)

You say you are looking for a 5spd...
#1) 5spds were never OEM here in the states, so any you may find will have been upgraded.
#2) a gas 5spd will not work with your diesel without mods to the output shaft...diff. spline count

You may find a Canadian 5spd diesel Fj-60.....but most are the condition your is in if not worse.

got any pics? i've owned 02s, 3s, 5s, 7s, Ms, LTWs, but never a 6.

THere's one in Plano, TX. Check out autotrader.com

I didn't get a chance to take pics of my truck this weekend. If you still want to see some high res pics of the truck that I have available, let me know offline. I will be happy to take some higher res shots of my truck (I should have time this weekend).

Wow. You all are quick to reply.

THanks for all the help and support so far..

As for the Japanese imports.. I live next to the bc border so Ive seen a bunch of them.. But really am trying to avoid the right hand drive.. I am sure that I could deal but I want this to become my permanent rig and the RHD could create problems lending to friends, or who knows what??

As for towing.. It really would be just a now and then thing.. not much really. but I would love to know more about the HJ61. any guesses where to get one? Is fuel economy or cruising speed alot worse for those?/

As for vermont.. Damn!! how did you guess?? small world I suppose. How do you know bill and serenity?

I sent an email to the guy in texas & will try to call tomorrow.

And yes.. It would be great to get some more photos.. I liked the ones from before.. No big hurry as Its going to be a little bit before I even get close to where you are..

Cheers, and thanks a lot for everyone's generous help!
The search goes on.....

Off topic again- my wife, Stacey, is a founding member of A-WOL Dance Collective and was part of a workshop/performance, here in Portland, with Elsie and Serenity a few years ago.
