88 FJ62 w/185K - $7,000 - In NC
Hate to do this, but the time has come to sell my favorite LC. Work, family, etc, have caught up with me and I just do not have enough spare time to spend on this and my 93 LC.
Details:
Purchased truck in July 2003 w/168K from a guy who worked as a parts manager at a Nissan dealership. He purchased the truck from the original owner in mid-2002 after it was traded-in. According to the 2nd owner, he only drove the truck sparingly around town, putting maybe 3K on it the entire year he had it. He did indicate he talked to the original owner, and apparently the truck was driven on long hunting/fishing trips. Truck was in decent shape when I got it, but clearly needed LOTS of TLC. Below is a list of all the major things I've had done:
168.3K Tune-up (Plugs, etc)
Added K&N Filter
Replaced Front Brake Pads (They were the original!)
Repacked and Surfaced Rotors
Rebuilt Rear Brakes (To orig specs)
168.8K Rebuilt Transfer Case
Changed Front and Rear Diff Fluid
172.3K Replaced Exhaust
New Free Flow Cats
New FlowMaster Muffler
New 2.25” Exhaust Pipe From Cats to Rear
173.0K New Old Man Emu (OME) Shocks and
Steering Stabilizer
174.5K New Starter
175.0K New Hella Halogens
New Battery
175.2K New Tires – Michelin LTX 30x9.50’s
175.6K New Radiator (From Specter)
Changed Rear Diff w/ Synthetic
182.0K New Fuel Pressure Regulator
New Tie Rod Ends (Man-A-Fre)
•I have receipts for all service
•Almost all service completed by Toyota w/ OEM parts
•Oil changed approx every 4K
•Transmission fluid changed twice over last two years
From what I can tell, the truck was driven off-road minimally. There are only a few scratches underneath, and it came with 30x9.50's. Apparently, there had been SERIOUS leaks in this thing as the whole underbelly was coated in diff fluid (from the t-case, later rebuit) and oil. The 2nd owner indicated he had the head gasket and rear main seals replaced. I asked for proof, but given his job, he said he did not get an invoice. The guys at Toyota believe that both these seals have been changed, but I unfortunately can't guarantee you 100% that they were (But clearly, there is no more major leakage). The birfs appear to have been repacked some time ago, and do not have any clicking, etc, when in turns.
I've used this truck as a DD, with minimal off-roading. I have taken it on multiple long trips (600+ miles) and its performed well - just slow. The AC blows very cold, and it does have a CD player.
What it Needs:
Only the driver side window works as the control box is shot. I believe the part is $275 retail at Toyota.
The paint is average for a 17 year-old vehicle. In the next 2 - 4 years, you will probably want to get a paint job.
I still get a few drops of oil from the rear main. Nothing major, but I usually wipe down the t-case skid plate once every two months so nothing builds up and hits the driveway.
There is one spot of rust of the left side rear frame rail, at the tailgate.
Price
Asking $7,000. I have over $11,000 in the truck, not including time.
I plan to advertise it locally within the next week or so for more, but wanted to get it out here first as I really appreciate all the advice and help over the past two years.
