For anyone who got a front windshield from Lexus/Toyota recently, who is the manufacturer?

It's for all Land Cruisers since at least the early 1980's and LX's since 1995.
Good to know! I just got a call back from one place that had Pilkington (and for less than half the price of the windshield I bought from Toyota). I'll probably stick with the Toyota one for now though if AGC was the original manufacturer.

There are zero markings on the bug of the Lexus AGC glass that denote that it is acoustic.

The OEM factory-install was Asahi Glass Corporation (AGC); always has been.

A dealer might be substituting an aftermarket part in lieu of the OEM service part possibly due to availability. Most insurance companies don't use the OEM part unless you pay the difference between costs.

Back in 2019 I had State Farm and they wanted to do exactly this. I argued it and ended up getting the dealership on my side to fight for the factory glass due to differences in quality. SF paid the bill. A couple of years after that a rock flew up and cracked the new one, took it to an independent shop, SF paid it again without question. I asked why and my agent said it was in the SF system that it had to be factory glass. Not sure if that is still the case.

I'm in Minnesota with Travelers, and I requested OE Lexus glass when I filed a claim. The shop I used said "well, I guess we can try" and the glass, plus all the trim was approved. I paid $0.

You can always ask. :)

Who is the OEM windshield for LX470? I have an '06, looking like I may be due for a replacement.

Ok, got the windshield from Toyota. It is AGC and Lexus branded, and appears to be identical to the LX 470 OEM glass. Way cheaper from Toyota than Lexus, although it seems there's a bit more of a wait to get it.
I was surprised how light it was (~25 lbs). I definitely came over prepared for transporting it safely. They packaged it well with foam all around the edges and rubber corner protectors, so all that was needed was some basic padding for it to sit on and a way to keep it upright.

For AllState, all you need to do is ask for OEM. Zero cost difference. It's written (or at least was written) into their policy docs. It's states roughly "For all body and safety components, parts will be sourced from the OEM if desired."

And it was that simple. Just tell the adjuster you want OEM and you get all OEM parts. No additional cost, no haggling. No substitutes unless you accept them.

AGC
The dealership is the only place to get the AGC glass.

You are likely also going to need all the trim pieces and rivets.

Not necessarily. Glass shops can get it as well. Perhaps they get it from the dealer, but you as the consumer can get it via most any glass shop. My last OEM windshield was done by Safelite.

I "believe" glass for the LX470 has acoustic glass- something like a sound absorbing membrane in between the laminated glass panes.

This is wild. I know they contract out some parts but I thought they did their own windshields, now I need to look at mine. Didn't someone say that aftermarket glass was much different than factory?

Depends on the manufacturer I'd guess, which is why I've been looking into this. Lexus/Toyota don't make their own windshields, so it's possible that a non-OEM sourced windshield was manufactured in the same place/way and just has different branding. I haven't been able to find solid information on who the manufacturer historically has been for the LX/LC, but it seems likely that it is currently AGC.

I've heard many times that there are aftermarket options that are much worse quality than OEM. I wouldn't be surprised if this is true, but at the same time, I haven't seen any actual testing done.

My current cracked windshield is Pilkington, which is supposedly pretty good. I won't be able to do a road test comparison when I get the new one installed, but maybe I could play a frequency sweep outside and measure the volume inside. Actually that'd probably be better than a road test since it would eliminate variables related to trim and molding installation.

Is that for the Land Cruiser and the LX 470? Only reason I wonder about different manufacturers is the rumors about the LX windshield having betters noise isolation.

I think this is all referring to "Lamisafe" which is a type of glass used by AGC on some models. It has a plastic layer in the middle that provides some safety, security and noise benefits. Beyond this, there's more involved versions of acoustic glass where the main goal is sound reduction.

I'm not sure how other misc brands compare, but I'm sure there are differences. It's not just a brand logo. Maybe it's audible noise differences, maybe it's waviness, maybe it's the accuracy of the ceramic border that actually bonds to the adhesive, or maybe it's safety related and you're only going to see the difference in a horrific accident. Regardless... get actual OEM if you can. Pending your insurance it might even be free.

Curious, was the glass made in Japan, Indonesia or ?

Purchased 12/ 2025. LX470 2003 bronze w/NV IDK: May be old stock. Bronze w/NV, may no longer be in production.

I placed and order for the OEM glass, but apparently it's on national backorder... No ETA on delivery.
