For anyone who got a front windshield from Lexus/Toyota recently, who is the manufacturer?

I think it should say on one of the corners of the windshield. Just curious who is making them these days and if I should bother buying from the dealership directly.

Fuyao is very common, PPG is out of business from what our glass guy told me. I too was considering getting a factory Toyota glass once I get done with the Hundy.

Oh that's interesting, I was expecting something like Pilkington or AGC.
I think Pilkington is still around never seen an AGC, must be a cost issue. Our glass guy is always giving us a good deal since we (my work) have a fleet.

my guy told me Pilkington sold out to Trival a few years ago, the last windshield he did for me on my 62 was from Trival
Same thing here, my guy does all the glass at work and gives us good deals

Thanks for the extra data point! My current glass is Pilkington, but I'm pretty sure I remember the person who sold me the vehicle saying it was a replacement.

I called some Lexus and Toyota dealerships. Lexus wasn't able to give much info, but Toyota said that the part they had in stock for the 04 Land Cruiser was from AGC.

Well, I called a dozen or so places that do glass replacement nearby. Looks most of them use Mygrant or XYG. Mygrant is just a distributor though, and I haven't been able to find what manufacturer they use for these vehicles. I did have one place mention PGW, but still looking into that. One place mentioned FYG (Fuyao).

Overall, not seeing much yet that I'd be confident as an alternative to OEM.

Had mine done a year ago with "all OEM parts" and the windshield was Fuyao
Is the bug for the glass stamped with Toyota or Lexus?

I had Lexus glass installed two years ago and the Bug is:
Lexus
AGC Automotive

According to the DOT number and verified on the Toyota P/N sticker, the glass was manufactured in Indonesia.

My truck had a Fuyao windshield, but the bug was on the passenger side and no Toyota or Lexus markings.

Why is Toyota supplying non-Toyota brands?
I think, like Rhetoric mentioned, the dealer sourced windshields typically have both Lexus/Toyota branding and the glass manufacturer.

Even within the 2004 year (and ignoring the Night Vision windshields), the LX 470 and Land Cruiser windows have different part numbers. That's not too surprising, but what is interesting is that autoparts.toyota.com carries BOTH the LX 470 and Land Cruiser parts:

2004 LX 470 Part Number:

2004 Land Cruiser Part Number

I'm not sure what difference there is, if any. Lexus one is ~$30 more expensive though. The only difference I can find is the part outlined in red is only present on the diagram for the Lexus version. I'm guessing that's related to the rain sensor.

I went ahead and got the Lexus part from Toyota for $435. Great deal compared to 'normal' dealership prices, but still pretty expensive for what it is. No idea when it will arrive, but I'm expecting AGC at this point.

I was wrong above, I stated the company was Truval but it is actually Trival
I realized that when I drove home today and read the windshield.

I "believe" glass for the LX470 has acoustic glass- something like a sound absorbing membrane in between the laminated glass panes.

This is wild. I know they contract out some parts but I thought they did their own windshields, now I need to look at mine. Didn't someone say that aftermarket glass was much different than factory?

Depends on the manufacturer I'd guess, which is why I've been looking into this. Lexus/Toyota don't make their own windshields, so it's possible that a non-OEM sourced windshield was manufactured in the same place/way and just has different branding. I haven't been able to find solid information on who the manufacturer historically has been for the LX/LC, but it seems likely that it is currently AGC.

I've heard many times that there are aftermarket options that are much worse quality than OEM. I wouldn't be surprised if this is true, but at the same time, I haven't seen any actual testing done.

My current cracked windshield is Pilkington, which is supposedly pretty good. I won't be able to do a road test comparison when I get the new one installed, but maybe I could play a frequency sweep outside and measure the volume inside. Actually that'd probably be better than a road test since it would eliminate variables related to trim and molding installation.

The OEM factory-install was Asahi Glass Corporation (AGC); always has been.

A dealer might be substituting an aftermarket part in lieu of the OEM service part possibly due to availability. Most insurance companies don't use the OEM part unless you pay the difference between costs.

Is that for the Land Cruiser and the LX 470? Only reason I wonder about different manufacturers is the rumors about the LX windshield having betters noise isolation.
