Mad thrash the last few days trying to get as many things off of the lists as possible.
Pulled the rear axle apart and finished stripping the patina off the housing. Brake drums are fairly new looking, thankfully. Learned about the park brake crank pivot arm and bracket and how I’m gonna need to replace most of that hardware.
Some might remember that I tacked my spring perches to set the pinion at 5*. Cut the tacks and reset the pinion to zero. Why, you ask? The Alcans I had built years ago already set the pinion to 5*, so with the perches set at 5, it ended up at 10*, which is too much. The lift on this is basically the same as it was, so really there’s no need to change anything.
Welded the driver side shock tower on. Welded some bolt-head stops on the spring hangers, and a plethora of cleaning and details on the frame. Stripped the new inner c-channels.
Got a start on the front axle tear down. Everything looks pretty okay, definitely has some miles on it. Bearings look okay, but the grease was completely turned to an oily goo. The Birfs look okay, but strangely dryer than what I’m used to. Anyways, everything’s slated for cleaning and evaluation this week.
I’m pretty tired. Here’s a pic.
The last puppy, Floki. He’s gonna be with us a few more days before going to his new home.
