FJCO +8/80 Rear Brake Adapter install/review

Would an adapter like this work on a ~77 FJ45 (8-bolt spindle) FF axle?

I might ditch the tcase drum handbrake in my '65 FJ40 w/said axle depending on the engine (and thus tcase) that I end up running.

It would have to be specifically designed for that axle housing. Probably easier to just laser cut the later style flange as a replacement and cut yours off and replace it.

FROR and Tuff Stuff have flanges that can be welded to the axle housing for conversion to full floating that have lugs for calipers and you can use later d-rotors if you what the parking brake at the rear wheels like the later 40s and 60s. Then you don't have to change to an 8 wheel.

I just have front rotors and calipers on my rear axle and kept the parking brake on the transfer case. For me the only time I had an issue was when the seal leaked and soaked the shoes.

Front axle spindle then built out that same as the front axle

Interesting options, but I've already got the FF drum axle. I'm just thinking ahead to how I might put a parking brake on the axle if I ditch the tcase brake.

Another in-house install with the CruiserMatt-Improved adapters complete.. this one is getting the cable added later when we swap chassis on this one (along with complete drivetrain swap).
These are in stock ready to ship.

Also, coming VERY soon.. bellcrank assembly to make the stock dash-pull handle work with the rear axle brakes. Still in prototype mode.

Bahahahahaha, no worries Matt. Ive been dealing with MAF issues on my LS swap so I haven't had any spare time to play on the next project. Reach out when your about to ship, I may add the other parts for the whole shebang to the order. Cant wait to see the bell crank option, that will open so many doors down the road for many.

I built a full floating rear for my 71 FJ40 using a late model housing and used the 40 series rear handbrake cable. Welded the tabs on the housing to suit the cable and made some mounting points for the rest of the cable. I used a bracket to hold the cable end and fabbed up a joiner to use the under dash factory cable rather than get a custom handbrake cable made. I went this way so replacement parts were available and the handbrake works great, l did consider the bell crank idea but it seemed like space is limited with the H55 5 speed. I used the 60 series backing plates and had to change my lower spring / shock mounts to clear the cable.
Also just upgraded my HJ47 handbrake to the rear wheels and can recommend the conversion.
