What about glow plugs? If they're tired then there will be unburnt smoke on cold startup - then subsequent warm starts won't smoke. I've noticed that this can be worse at higher altitudes but I don't really know why.
I had to do the same thing to remove my primer pump. I used a stubby wrench and ground down the open end so that it was much thinner to get it to fit. Then I used a piece of metal to tap the wrench to crack it loose cause I couldn't get the...
good point about the not surging. The plan sounds good. If you can confirm the fuel in the clear line and have 12 volts to the solenoid at the same time then it should be the solenoid.
Your situation reminds me of a story I heard from a friend a number of years ago who was working in a big shop filled with excellent journeyed mechanics with lots of combined experience. One of the mechanics trucks had an intermittent...
for these reasons and the fact that it starts after 1/2 hour I suspect intermittent solenoid problems but like squash says you can run the clear line to confirm fuel flow and no air to eliminate that possible issue.
I agree with what you say about fuel Squash and have pretty much said the same thing above - find the run position and check for air at the bleed screw when the problem occurs. We went over the pump being hard as well - I asked if he has...
Doesn't sound like air suck to me. If it fails to start due to suck it is not gonna start again after I/2 hour. The air doesn't magically disappear by sitting a little while - it would have to be bled out again.
Yes you have an advantage with the exchange rate . A few years ago when the Canadian dollar was higher than the US dollar I was able to get a beautiful FJ60, a first Jen cummins w350 dually 4x4 and several other trucks at really good prices...
That must have been the one that started @$6500 and went to $10,000 in a couple of hours! Looks similar to the one I got two years ago in the Pike Lake area for $350 -LOL. The current white one is being sold by a friend and came out of...
Well I guess you can say that you have been successful in bleeding the air out of your engine and getting it to run again. By the sounds of it your truck might have been ready to start the night you were working on it it but ran out of battery...
sorry I got called to diner - back now so a few more suggestions.
if you managed to get fuel to the bleed screw you should be almost home.
re: the solenoid
-many have three positions on, off, and over fuel for the start mode.
-you...
Sounds like you're making progress. You have to make sure that you get fuel up at each injector. Just one injector with air can cause a problem. You need to determine what is the run position on you fuel solenoid. Can you disconnect the fuel...
here we go again ! sheesh, like they say - options are like axeholes - everybody's got one! I've got 2 - 3FE 60's, 2 - 2H 60's and multiple 3B 60's. Those 3FEs are so obsolete with today's wonderful fuel prices! Talking to a friend last week...
Tapage - that is awesome. Does anyone know what year Toyota started the H series engines? I think the rub for Canadians is that the 2H wasn't imported to Canada until 1985 - maybe, in retrospect, a conspiracy to sent the cheaper 2H's to...
The vacuum would have happened before when it was running ( if that's the problem ) then you shut it down and the tank vacuum draws in air from somewhere in the line until inside of tank air pressure and outside air pressure equalizes then you...
not quite sure about the overflow system and how it works on your truck. Consider it from this perspective - if there is any way that a vacuum situation could occur in the tank then when you shut the truck down then fuel could be sucked back...
on the overflow system - to clarify - on mine it is a simple return directly back to the main fuel pump. So if there is an invisible crack in the rubber - the vacuum could suck air back into the pump
could definitely be the hand pump - as far as I can tell they are not rebuildable. If there is some leak in the line before the hand pump the maybe it is just sucking air if pressure can't be built up. If the overflow from the injectors goes...
main suspects to start:
- the primer pump itself - it should be tight on the o-rings inside the cylinder - when it is primed up it should be hard to push down - if diesel can leak by under load then air can leak back in
- is there a rubber...
