Hi All,

It is 2025 and the dizzy for the FJ60 is no longer available, I believe it is part number 19100-61102. Not only that, the common failure of these dizzies are the double advance diaphragms and there is no solution, there is no direct fit double diaphragm spare part to drop in. There are threads where people mention a small shop in some place but all I can find is a death end. Other threads mentioned a person who was able to refurbish but I think he moved forward to other things. Did I mentioned I'm in Costa Rica? no easy send dizzy to no body in the US.

I love to keep my FJ60 stock but in the mean time, I have no vacuum advance so I will like to put something in there while I look into it a bit more.

I already bought a NonUS dizzy, I believe it is part 19100-61180 and the appropriate clamp, the stock screw was a bit to long but I managed to do something with it. But since my FJ60 has electronic ignition I also bought the Pertronix suggested by City Racer 1662LS kit. I almost forgot to mention, I'm desmog, pump is gone, rail is gone, almost all valves and I blocked all those ports on the carburetor....

I attempted a first install on the truck already. I managed to find the zero degrees line on the flywheel and the 8 degrees advance. It was key to use the old dizzy and rotate one wheel while in 4th gear to fine top death center.

I say attempted because I failed the electrical part. The Pertronix, as the original dizzy, has 2 cables so I guess I don't know how to connect 2 cables!!! So need your help! Does any body tried this configuration before?

Mechanically all was in place, electrically I connected the red and white from the igniter to the red and black cable from the pertronix. But no spark what so ever. Did I already burn the Pertronix? Is red actually positive and white actually negative? If you know please let me know.

I panicked a bid so I put the old stock dizzy in the car and started right up. I'm definitely not a mechanic.. so at least I was able to put the stock dizzy back, adjust the timing and the truck run and drive (without advance) happily. First time setting timing so learned something today. My wife will say I just lost 4 hours of my time.

City Racer mentioned to bypass the igniter but my concern is that the igniter also sends rpm for "things" (AC amplifier and something else, not sure).

Did I burn the Pertronix already by connecting the positive and negative in the wrong place? Is there a way to test the Pertronix? If I bypass the igniter, Do I just plug positive and negative to the coil?

Hopefully someone can reply before I attempt the igniter bypass in a few days...

So I did tried again today to install the non US dizzy upgraded with pertronix. I failed miserably after a good 6 hours of work.

Bypassed the igniter but I was not able to get spark. I believe maybe I killed the Pertronix yesterday by not knowing what I was doing. So just because I really wanted vacuum advance I tried to install the mechanical points back. I didn't have the ballest resistor but I wanted to run the engine, not run perfectly.

I was able to see the mechanical points sparking. I installed per FSM and when I moved the dizzy counter wise I saw the spark. Installed cables but I only got backfire, I was not able to make it run.

I put the old dizzy back to regroup and rethink a bit. I think my pertronix is burned now or it was not the appropriate and definitely I miss something in the connection to the coil.

I haven't started the truck yet, it was too late and still need to verify a few things.

I'm thinking persuing the non US dizzy with mechanical points is my next step. I just need to understand further.

If any of you is running the non US dizzy on the us FJ60 and can comment I'll appreciate the help.

Hi - Short answer I bought a HEI dizzy from ManAFre.

I found out that I was off by 180 degrees. I ended up calling my mechanic friend.

We did run the dizzy with mechanical points for seconds. It never idled good, we attributed that to temporary connections and lack of the resistor. But physically it when fully in. I bet it will run good with the right pertronix and the right coil and connections.

We removed the dizzy and put the old dizzy back in and that is what I have been running.

It took me some time to decide on what to do. I ended up buying a HEI distributor from ManAFre for around 400 dollars. For the pertronix to work I needed a new Pertronix for $160, probably upgrade my stock coil for some more $$$ and I just didn't want to mess up with it. HEI is a tested solution.

Truck is in the mechanic shop as I write this. Bunch of maintenance was needed since I mud the car over the weekend and hopefully getting the HEI dizzy in.

Picture for fun! I messed up my alternator and power steering but the Old Toyota Dizzy never gave up. People say HEI will not survive but I will test that. I hope I can rebuilt the old dizzy.

Love your reproduction parts @TRFarmers! I got involved in upgrading my h44 to an h55 tranny but I need to buy all your stuff!

How did you get this project sorted out? I'm trying to help a friend now and was in the processing of sourcing the distributor. Is the part number correct for the application?

Seth, I have the distributors in stock, give me a holler.
For the coil/wiring you need to use a standard coil, no ignitor, and wire the pertronix like a regular pickup for points. Pretty simple. I'm guessing the OP wired it backwards which is what fried his.

That is one heck of a mud pit!!! Ping me for a shipping rate. My e-commerce site Shopify isn't great with international shipping quotes. I'm usually 30% of the quoted rate on my website.

Matt-

My buddy in OZ sent me a brand call AccuSpark. What he failed to send was the dizzy (which is what I really needed). I ended up sourcing 19100-61180 as I got impatient (my ADHD got the better of me).

However, I will be buying your H55F wiring adapter for the 3FE and the clutch pedal kit, for my rig. I'm trying to figure out if I can get it done in time for Cruise Moab.

Sounds good Seth. Maybe we can trade some stuff around. :)
